Tangkou Dolls
« on: February 16, 2012, 04:54:40 PM »
I got surprised with $25 from my boyfriend's grandma for Valentine's Day, which means I should be able to afford a Tangkou for my birthday in May! Right now I'm trying to do some research about their quality, but I have yet to find anything. Does anyone own one or know about any problems they're prone to etc? If it helps I plan to get Aussie.

I have two! They have some eye mechanism issues, both mine were sold to me with eye 'faults' but you just have to close them first before using the eye change switch.
Uhm...I've heard of some joint issues, speifically around the feet, but never had any trouble myself.

I have an Aussie and she's my favourite...don't tell Paris...xD Those are the two with wigs as oposed to Italy and England which I believe have rooted hair.

They're good value for money and fit other 1/6 doll clothing and wigs, so you won't be stuk if you choose to customise...uhm..

I've prattled on a bit, any specific questions lemme know!

That's all very helpful! Thanks!

One thing I was able to find was about their joints and needing to be careful with them. Which shouldn't be too big a deal aside from packing her up (I don't have a proper doll carrier so my poor darlings get wrapped in clothes and put in a backpack).

No problem :)
I don't have a doll carrier either, but my girls rarely go places. Like I've said, I've not had any joint trouble so far, but it pays to be careful. :)

There is a Flickr group for Tangkous, it's a young doll yet, but that's the place I've seen most information shared.

I hope we get to see your Aussie soon! X

I'm tempted to get one myself...and Aussie is the one I've got my eye on!  It'll probably be a little while though, as I've made SO many doll purchases recently, and my next one will be a Blythe...

I've done some reading on them, and like you said, it looks like joints cracking is the only real issue.  Their bodies are a lot like the newer style Pullip bodies, so just be careful of the wrists and ankles and you should be fine.

I want Paris super badly. I think she's way cuter than a Blythe...
I just still have trouble justifying the price. I was bidding on one with a faulty eye mechanism but I was at school and couldn't bid at the end of the auction. Hopefully she comes up again.

Aussie and Paris are my favorites, but I also really love Chinese Bjurk.

And wow really? I'm shocked anyone can't justify the price, but I'm biased and I know it. xD Even with shipping they cost less than a Pullip and way less than my Blythe did (not sure of their average cost but mine was $500), and the BJD I want is $300. So yeah. Tangkous are my new love. :D

They're like a Pullip/Blythe hybrid of my favorite parts from both dolls. 8D

I also recently found out there's only 4000 of each doll, and the next ones will be limited to 2000 per doll. So get 'em while you can! They're a great started for a Big Eyed Doll fan :)

I have Italy and I love her! Her eye chips are nice, her rooted hair is thick and silky, and she smells like strawberries! I've had no trouble with her eye mech; her only flaw is on one of her eyelids- the paint's rubbed. Other than that I think she's fairly sturdy and quality for the price. Compared to my BJDs and Blythes, she was so cheap! I want to get another one soon to take apart & customize.

I bought a Tankgou doll second hand, she has rooted brown hair but she never came on a jointed body, she had a body more like a bratz doll. I just switched her head to an old pullip type 2 body I had >_>

She has a slight issue with her eye mech too, but she is still pretty good for a cheaper doll.

Her hair is a little crazy though, I'm wondering if it would be easy to reroot her with better hair.

Yikes, that's really bizzare Tagi. As far as I was aware the rooted brown haired doll hadn't come out yet, so I guess the person  before you re rooted her? If so it shouldn't be too hard to re do yourself. and that body, why would they do that?xD

To me that looks like aussies head going by her makeup and lid paint. Hope you can get her hair looking fab soon. :)
