When you do an alt. gen custom...
« on: February 21, 2012, 04:02:54 PM »
I'm curious. For those of you that have made customs on alternate generation baits, for example G1 to G4:

Do you keep everything about the original pony - including the eye style/blush/hair style - or do you take the style of the bait and just keep the colours and symbol?

I'm doing some G1 to G2 customs at the moment. I'm planning to use the colours and symbols only - eyes will be an attempt at G2 style and the wings are sculpted so not matching any generation.

idk if this is what you want to hear, but i'm currently doing a G3 into a G4- I just really closely studied the eye and traced it on with pencil before painting. Even with the sculpt of the more 'feminine' eye, but unless you look at it closely, you can't tell at all.

Pics here if you'd like.

i keep the eye color fromt he original pony, but do the eye style in the generation i'm making. in your case this would mean having the right color for the pony but in the g2 eye style.

I typically do my own thing, but I think you can still tell what pony they are supposed to resemble :)

I did the eyes on my G3 Raincurl the same way I do all my G3 eyes, though the color is the same as the original.

On my G1-G4 lil Icey, I added my own touches. I sculpted parts of and simplified his symbol. A bit of sculpting went to reshaping his body to pay homage to the G1 BB style. I like to think of him as a hybrid of the two gens. (in my head at least) I tried to match his colors as close as possible, but he may be a tad too green. I don't have a G1 Ice Crystal to compare to IRL.

Thanks for the input everybody!

I think with these that I'll do the eyes in a G2 style as I think that the jewels is a big part of that, but keep the original colours.

i have done both -- make the alt look as similar as possible, and do something fun while still keeping the general idea and colors in mind.
