How common or htf is adult Honeycomb?
« on: May 19, 2012, 08:52:33 AM »
I have her in my collection but have never really liked her because all I see is Surprise with an alternate symbol. I would love to rehair her to match her baby - a gold yellow would make much more sense on her I think!

But is this a pony people would be upset over if I tamper with her? Or is she common enough that it would be considered ok to do? She is in great condition with sparkly symbols. For some time now I have been looking for one with cut or bad hair but good symbols instead but I can not seem to find one like that or they cost more than I'm willing to spend. So I keep thinking I should just go ahead with my current one.

I would say she was fairly common in the UK. But she is harder to find with excellent symbols.

What's her hair like?  It just seems like a shame to remove it if it's in good condition.

Hmmm . . . maybe you should look for a pony with a haircut, a bad body, and a good head.  Then you could reroot it, swap the head onto your current Honeycomb, and switch the Surprise-neon-yellow haired head onto the bad-bodied pony!

She comes up often enough in the UK but she is often overlooked because of how much like Surprise she is like...however she is your pony of course to do as you please with!

I suppose if you were worried about baiting a nice pony - you could offer her for trade to someone who has a lesser quality Honeycomb which would give the other person a nice pony for display and you a slightly less better Honeycomb to do as you wish with. I was thinking about doing something like this one day with my Honeycomb because she needs a new original tail as she has a "new" hair tail at the moment but is otherwise fine! That may be a little unbalanced for you however...

Honestly, I'd probably mess around with a Surprise instead of a Honeycomb, Surprise is pretty easy to find in not so great condition where as Honeycomb is a little harder to come across in nice shape :)

when i started selling my collection i had 2 Honeycombs and they both got loads of attention (which baffled me because i always disliked the bright chartreuse hair colour when i was a kid haha) so it seemed to me that good quality ones can be fairly sought-after

Well Honeycomb is HTF here in the states, simply because she wasn't produced here. I would say if yours has decent hair, sell her instead of rerooting and find a baity one or use Surprise for the hair project :) It might take a while to find one, but that's part of the journey I guess ^^

But she is your pony, so you have a right to do what you want with her. People are allowed to be upset if you go ahead and rehair, but not to berate you over it. I do think she would look lovely with gold hair.

Great idea! A win-win situation so to speak.

Actually, I wouldn't customize a great Honeycomb with good symbols. She's not that rare, but not one of the most common either. But it's your pony and your decision. :)

Well it's a Honeycomb I want so using a different pony isn't an option here  :P   That would mean repainting and reglittering to make new symbols and that would be much harder, at least for me. And I want my gold hair Honeycomb to be as genuine as possible after all.
I don't think rehairing is really customizing because a rehair job could always be reversed. (I don't use any glue when I rehair, only the pony hair secured in knots.)

But yes, finding a poorer condition Honeycomb to work with would def be the best solution.
I hadn't thought of the possibility to separate head and body like that, thanks for bringing it up. If someone has a tail-less Honeycomb with a mane cut I could swap my perfect head and tail for their haircut head... it would be the strangest trade ever but we would both benefit from it.

I have a Honeycomb as well.  In fact, I have her listed on eBay at the moment and she currently has a few watchers but no bids.  Her hair, eyes, and symbol are all amazing; however, she is no longer a pristine white and has several pink marks.  I don't know if she would count as bait or not.  The link to my auction (if I'm allowed to do that here?) is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110882860826?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_882wt_1344
