Straightening tinsel pony hair?
« on: January 05, 2023, 03:49:55 PM »
I have some new additions to my collection that I have cleaned today!
Bodies and hair have been washed and conditioner has been put in their hair, but I have not boil washed them yet.
Silver swirl has the most frizzy tinsel and I'm scared boil washing could make her worse. :(
I have read about heat treating pony hair to straighten frizz, but does tinsel melt at a lower point than pony hair?
I would like to restore the tinsel to similarly straight to my golden glow if there is a way to achieve that! Thank you for any help.  :)

You can straighten both plastic and metallic tinsel with a hair straightener/flattener. But, you need to make sure the hair is wet and has lots of conditioner on it. Use the lowest setting on the iron or even turn it off when you run it over the hair.

Do you have any G3 ponies you could practice on? Metallic tinsel is a little trickier than the plastic in most G3s. It can be done though.

I also wanted to give you these links -

MLP Preservation Project has a lot of tips and tutorials on fixing up ponies. Unfortunately, it's mostly G1 centered.

Lavender Lagoon is all about G2s.

And you can always post here with questions :)

Thank you so much!

I have not seen the mlp preservation site before it is very helpful.
I'm enjoying lavender lagoon a lot too!
Unfortunately I do not have any G3s to practice on. I have been looking for some in che charity shops here but I am not having much luck.  :(
I'll be trying this method out once I get my hands on some ponies I'm not scared to damage and some new straighteners.
