Removing ink stains from g2s help?
« on: January 02, 2023, 11:28:07 AM »
Hello everyone and happy new year!  :satisfied:

I have been trying to clean my childhood ponies but have not got any of the pen stains out of them yet.
I have tried these methods on dainty dove but nothing has worked.  :(
Soap and water.
Toothpaste and a soft toothbrush. (This has worked very well on some small spots of dirt or mold that she had!)
Nail varnish remover.  (This did not help with removing the ink so I washed it off to make sure she didn't damage.)

I have read that magic erasers can remove stains but I have also read that they are abrasive like sand paper. I've never used one before so I'm not sure if I should get one to try, and if they also have chemicals that could damage my ponies.

She doesn't have many stains but I would like to have this as her display side.  :)

My g2s golden glow and Princess morning glory have the same ink stains, and so does my g1 sea spray. They were stored together so i think they are from the same pen.
I have only tried these methods on dainty dove for fear of damaging the colours on the others.
I'm new to pony restoration and I am trying to be very careful with my childhood ponies, especially my favourites. Could the problem be that the harder plastic on dainty dove is making it harder to remove the ink stains?
Any advice on this would be really appreciated!  :)

For the nail polish remover, was it 100% pure acetone? That makes a big difference.

Magic erasers don't have chemicals. They are like a bit like sandpaper but very effective and won't harm your ponies bodies. You don't have to scrub with them, you'll know right away if it will get rid of the ink or not and you'll be surprised the rest of the dirt they get off :)

The only other thing I can think of for ink is sunfading. I have no idea how safe that is to do with G2s.

It's normal nail varnish remover, I can get some acetone to try out as well. I have used it for g4 customs many years ago and was worried it would cause damage. I've read some horror stories about it melting vinyl in my research.  >_<
I'll try and find the erasers to try too and research sun fading thank you for the info! :)

The only way to go is a UV treatment, but I'm also not sure how it would effect G2.

Acetoning is relatively ok for G2s. Their plastic is a whole lot better than the G4s's. If the acetone doesn't work, try sunfading.

I've sunfaded some G2's succesfully :) Gardener is currently sitting in my windowsill wrapped in tinfoil and it seems to go well. Just don't put them in the baking sun, but since you're in the UK I think we're in the same boat in terms of weather. And from then it's weeks or months of patience :P

Yes, we don't get very strong sun here at all haha.
Which colours have you sun faded successfully if you don't mind me asking? I have never tried it before and I'm scared that it could bleach out the original colour if I don't wrap exactly enough with the foil.
I'm very jealous of your gardener! She is one of the next ponies I have my heart set on to get, she has a very different colour set to the others I have. :inlove:

I think several colours? Definitely white and blue. Teddy is also chilling in the windowsil and with some black marker that has almost completely faded though. Maybe the yellow has faded a teensy bit as well, but it's fine. White should be fine in the winter sun :) I've had one mishap when I left a pony out in the Summer at 40 celsius, she's got a tan now  :lookround:

Welp, Gardener is going up for sale  ^^;

Thank you for sharing!
I'll try and be careful with the white ponies in the summer. Did the heatwave last year cause the sunburn?  :(

I have been reading your sales page actually! I will check for gardener on there, I have been meaning to pm you about some of the items!
