Brush Identification Help Needed
« on: July 06, 2022, 12:41:29 PM »
Hi there! I'm still going through old stuff my parents sent me. I'm trying to ID these brushes 1st by what toy line they go to and then to who in the line. I think I have MLP, Barbie, Strawberry Shortcake, something called an enchanted horse, and not sure what else. If you're an accessories guru, I'd love any info you have about them, or if you have a referral to an accessories site for IDing them, that would be great, too! Thanks!

(Sorry I couldn't figure out how to embed an image in the text of this thread, so am posting a link.)

In pic one I believe all except the maroon-colored one are MLP, and all the ones in pic two. That's all I can help with.  Pic 6 looks sooo familiar but I just can't place it. I think there is a website that shows all the mlp brushes, but I can't think of it at the moment.  In pic one the teal flower pick I believe is from a flutter pony, and the pink spiral one is from a seapony...someone with more knowledge will surely appear, though!
Thanks to Shimmlight for the new avatar image

Photo 1:
All except the maroon seahorse pick are MLP.

Photo 2:
All MLP.  Any star brush with a hole in it came from a plush pony.

These are Enchanted Horses:

Ghostofthedoll is an excellent site for all sorts of 80s girl toys, so you might browse around and see if you can find some of the other combs. It’s not great for IDing combs/brushes if you don’t have at least some idea of where it might have come from, but it’s a start.

Thank you for the advice and knowledge shared, everyone! So helpful! @ goddessofpeep - Thank you for explaining the brush with the hole in it!!!! I couldn’t figure out why it has one when there weren’t any holes in the regular only ones!!!

Photo 1 - Seahorse comb/pick is Barbie (see comment on photo 4)
Photo 3 - You are correct they are Barbie style brushes
Photo 4 - Seahorse combs/picks are from the Island Fun Barbie line, combs that look like a triangle and circle are Style Magic Barbie, Shooting Star comb/pick is also Barbie (these were used a few times, could possibly be Totally Hair Barbie or from the Jazzie line (Barbie's cousin) or others.

Photo 5 - Straight type brushes could be Barbie (same style 70's & 80's), the pink swirly comb ones I know came in Barbie Fashion Add-ons Hair Originals (these were made in the 1970's and early 1980's, the sets were wigs and hair extension pieces sets). That swirl handle comb was used in a number of sets, for example also the Barbie Finishing Touches.

Photo 6 - Mattel Lil' Miss Dolls (for example Lil' Miss Dress Up) - check Ghost of the Doll, not sure which ones had the bow comb or if it was just the "Dress Up" version.

Photo 7 - You are correct, Strawberry Shortcake

Photo 8 - No ideas, sorry, except that the small blue one looks fashion doll size.
