European Gusty or Deflocked Gusty?
« on: January 30, 2021, 11:03:49 AM »
Hello everyone,

Some time ago I got my hands on a basically mint Gusty.

Her pelt is white, her eyes are green and she has five painted purple leaves on each flank. Her hoof says Hong Kong.

I was looking up info on reverse Gusty today, and I found that the EU version and defrocked version seem to look identical.

How do I tell them apart? I think the hooves might have different countries. Is that correct? Can anyone please check?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Luke

Lets see...I think all Gusty's are marked Hong Kong ^.^

No glitter in symbols is Europe edition
but I think they are both HK and come in both "patent" and "patent pending" bodies

Best places to inspect the pony for deflock:  around mane hair plugs, especially in-between plugs ; and check the hooves carefully - it's so hard to get the flocking fuzz out of the hoof markings.  unless the person was able to completely re-hair the pony, you will likely find bits of flocking still around the mane.

If you got her in Europe it's highly likely she's a movie star and not a deflock.

Like LBS said, you can often see residue, tiny flecks of fur in the stamp on the hooves, and sometimes evidence of chemicals being used to remove the flocking. There are areas that are hard to deflock permanently and it does affect the plastic.

Without pictures it is hard to say, but it does seem a bit pointless to deflock a SS Gusty - who is somewhat rare - when the movie star version is not that hard to come by.

There are Italian Gustys and such, but they have metallic paint, blue eyes and ITALY on the hooves.

What you are talking about sounds like the movie star release. She would be HK.

Euro Gusty's eyes are a bit darker, if you ask me. So Soft Gusty and Euro Gusty also have no glitter in their symbols.

Thank you for all your answers. I'm very certain my Gusty is European. She has not a trace of flocking anywhere and given my region, it is the most logical answer. You guys are all a great help :)

The European Gusty sold in Scandinavia and South Africa has glittery symbols. Only the Movie Star one has painted symbols (aside SS under her fur).

All European HK Gustys have green eyes. I'd agree that they're greener than the SS ones. In the light of my room, my SS gusty's eyes look more aqua-green, maybe closer to the Y3 release in North America.

The Scandinavian/SA one also has green eyes.
