Not too big of a fan of the Fancy Pants babies, I'm always reminded of fakies when I see them. If I saw her around I'd pick her up, though, and her purple is a very nice shade.

I agree. Fancy pants just don't do it for me at the moment. But I would never leave a pony behind if I were fortunate enough to find one in the wild, no matter what they looked like.

I have her long forelock variant, and I like her a lot. I notice fancy pants are a pretty strong dividing factor :P I personally think they look cute, and I like the fact that she has them, it makes her more unique. Her purple is also a nice shade.

I never understood why the name though... (probably because I am not a native speaker?)

They really are like pony marmite as a set, with people loving and hating them. I adored them as a child though never had one, because of the comics. Glider and Dots & Hearts were my favourites from the set. I also wonder, though, how much the weird expressions of the Thai ones influence people's like/dislike of the set on the US side of the equation. I have all ten of the Fancy Pants babies, but of them all, my Thai Baby Glider looks the weirdest.

I also am not sure butterflies glide. Never thought about the name before, but you have a good point.

I think she does look cute with all of her accessories and who could resist a purple baby unicorn! I bought a hair bait and re-haired her with a blend of fluorescent yellow and white perfume puff hair.  I also touched up her paintwork. I think she looks better without a forelock and great with a big poofy afro. Actually I've just remembered that I've done two like this, I sold one on Ebay and kept one for myself.

I'm also not too sure about the idea of this set wearing painted nappies because to me in these poses the ponies are too old. However I find that she looks cute if you add a tutu from the Baby Bonnet School of Dance. I'm not actively looking for any more from this set which is kind of a relief because I bet the original accessories would be quite hard to find!

Did you mean the name of the pony or the name of the set?

The set name is based on a saying that means "opulent / rich", but also in a sort of scornful or negative way.  Like, it implies that something / someone is pretentious, snobbish, or spoiled.

Anyway . . . yeah, I don't like this set at all.  I have no desire for baby ponies with permanent underwear.

I have her. My current one came from a lot that my mother found locally this year.

In Europe 'fancy pants' is more of an unofficial term I think. It was definitely used here but not as their official set name. I never thought of it before LM said it but the connotation of fancy pants is a bit bratty ;) Although maybe it's more of a US nuance as we would say smarty pants...? And those are actually pants in the UK meaning of the word...suggesting maybe hasbro did mean the bratty implicationin the US!

So amused by that now. Never thought of it before.

Smarty pants is used in the US too, but that is meant to mean someone who is a know-it-all.   Fancy pants means rich and spoiled. The US has a history of urban vs rural sensibilities, so you might see a reference to "fancy-pants city folk" in a Western movie or something like that.  Apparently the phrase stems from an advertisement in the mid 1800s literally advertising "fancy pants" (which in the US means trousers).

Smarty pants also originated in the US . . . I guess we are a nation that likes our pants idioms, lol.

Have her.  I have very few Fancy Pant babies, but that's simply because they weren't a priority purchase in my collection, not because I don't like them.  I like her well enough, but her shade of purple just seems a bit too dark to be paired with white hair.  Just my thought.
