Did you individually name your Loving Family ponies?
« on: February 03, 2017, 07:37:57 PM »
These sets are cool, but "Daddy Sweet Celebrations, Mommy Sweet Celebrations," etc, are just not proper names for ponies, lol!  They should have their own individual names!

(Pic from My Little Wiki)

Has anyone else named their ponies?  I am trying to think of good individual names for them.

Edit:  Wow, I just noticed that two of the family sets have the "wrong" family names in these photos (Sweet Surprise instead of Sweet Celebration, and Hearts 'n Flowers instead of Bright Bouquet.)

I have Daddy Sweet Celebrations and Daddy Bright Bouquet now, I just call them Daddy Celebrations and Daddy Bouquet, I'd never thought of it not being a "proper" name but now you mention it, it's true, more like a description rather than a proper name isn't it?

I have to admit the production name changes interests me more ;) I haven't seen that on UK stuff so I guess the names were set in stone by then.

I only had two as a child as initially here they were sold separately. I actually never saw the imported US family sets in my area as a child. I had baby Sister Sweet Celebrations (aka "Cele") and Baby Brother Bright Bouquet (aka "Brother" or, often, in my notes, BBBB.) Not very imaginative. When Naynie got her second hand Baby Sister Bright Bouquet, she was just known as "sister". So I dunno if that counts. Cele was a proper nickname I guess, but she never had parents or a brother and spent all her time with Yoyo, so I didn't really think of them as family ponies with the same name, even though I had the comics.

Similar thing with the later families. We only had the babies - Sunbright, Meadowsweet and Berrytown, so those were their names. I had Mummy Sunbright late on but too late for it to make a difference. The only nicknaming that happened was when Naynie and I had the same pony, so we did have Sunbright and Brighty, and Meadow and Sweet for a while...

As a kid I only had Mommy Sweet Celebrations, but I got her from a fleamarket so didn't know her real name. Incredibly cleverly I called her "Balloon" or "Mrs. Balloon" (in Finnish though). :lookround: Now I use their correct names.

If I got new ponies (MOC) I used the name from the back card, or a translated version of it as they were in English. If I had a 2nd hand pony which was in the comics or the cartoons I used the name from those.

I gave my Sweet Celebrations family names before I knew ponies came with their own names anyway and of course it turns out they didn't have actual names anyway^^; The mother has always been Balloons (How awesome that we named ours so smiliarly Filthy^^), the dad was 'Presents' at first for obvious reasons. When I was a few years older, I renamed him Mint for the green mane and tail and to me the light blue has always had a slight green tinge to it and the baby has always been named Confetti. Lost the baby when I was still preschool age. Bought a replacement for it from someone on here in my first year on the Arena.

That catalogue photo is simply awesome!! And it's so cool and interesting how two of the families have different names!! :wow: I have never seen those before.

I have given most of mine individual names but for most of them they are like their middle names (my ponies also have last names). Very fittingly to the different name of the Bright Bouquet family in that catalogue my Daddy Bright Bouquet is Heart and Mummy Bright Bouquet is Flower ^.^. And funny enough my Mummy Sweet Celebrations is Balloon and Daddy Sweet Celebrations is Present, like others have names theirs ;). But I guess those are very obvious names. On the more creative side Baby Brother and Baby Sister Sweet Celebrations are Party Time and Birthday Surprise. I have triplets of Daddy Apple Delight. The first one is named Daddy Apple Delight, the other two are named Daddy Apple Tree and Daddy Golden Delicious. I'll leave it at this.

I had the Bright Bouquet family as a child, and I went with (Daddy) Bright, (Mommy) Bouquet, and double-barreled Baby Bright Bouquet. I had no idea there was another sibling overseas then, so "sister" didn't factor in. I don't know what I would have done with two babies in the family. These days I use their "proper" names, but I admit it still kind of grates, especially with a mouthful like Baby Brother Bright Bouquet.

That catalogue page is really interesting. I had a minor freak-out when I saw the "Sweet Surprise" family. Had I been calling them the wrong thing this whole time?! Then I noticed "Hearts 'n Flowers" and thought no surely not that, and then I scrolled down and was thoroughly relieved. I don't know why "Sweet Surprise" seemed reasonable to me; I blame this brave new era of alternative facts we're living in. ^^;

Baby "Hearts 'n Flowers" looks like her hair is rooted half blue and half pink lengthwise. That's a pretty neat design, although unprecedented AFAIK. It's harder to tell if the other babies are the same way because all their forelocks match their normal design, so it doesn't jump out as "wrong"... Although going by the backcard art, one could argue that it's correct for Baby Bright Bouquet to have Daddy's blue cowlicked forelock. :P

ETA: It tickled me when you called Daddy Apple Delight "Trunk" in one of your fics, LM. ^.^ I think that's a cute name for him! I don't remember if you gave the wife and kids new names though?

My sister and I called Daddy Bright Bouquet "Blueheart".  He was the patriarch of the herd... :)

I did a list once on the Arena and other ponies helped me to come up with some that I could use.  Here's what we came up with altogether:

The apple ones are Bramley and Appleby. The flower ones are Blueheart (I think must have been from Raindrop!) and Brightly. I can't remember the sweet celebrations though.  I think I called the Daddy Presley and the baby I don't know! I can't find the thread.

I'm imagining the UK comic worked in some way from similar photos to these because of the way it always drew Daddy SC's hair. I wonder what the proto-catalogue for the UK set was like and if he had the same hairdo...

My friend called her childhood Daddy Bright Bouquet Happy Heart :)  Because of this I still think of him with that name.  I don't remember what she called mommy or baby though.

I didn't realise Baby Sweet Celebration was Baby Sweet Celebrations name asa child. I'm not sure why? She pretty much remained nameless, occasionally being called Baby Gifts, Baby Party or Baby Ballons.

I didn't have the rest of her family and I always felt bad for her being an orphan.

They are all really nice! Might have to call mine Baby Balloons from now on if that's OK with you :)

-hi-5's Koudoawaia- Wow childhood minds think alike!

I had the Sweet Celebrations Family as a young kid, they were my favorite of my 20 or so G1's. The dad I used to carry around everywhere (I remember one day I lost him on the playground at school and I was very upset but somehow someone found him and turned him in to lost and found, so I got him back!) His name was Presents. Mom pony always stayed at home, her name was Balloons. And their son came with me sometimes. I remember calling him 'Presents and Balloons' sometimes but that got too long and I called him Birthday after that.
Thank you Thimble for my amazingly cute avatar!
