I'm with the keep it boxed up group. Not a lot of older toys in their original packaging. It's why I try to buy loose toys most of the time. More affordable, and I don't have to worry about losing value when opening them.
Thanks to Lunacat for the lovely art

I've never had the guts to do this myself with MIB ponies- but have deboxed vintage shimmers, SSC, Moondreamers and Rainbow Brite when they arrived with stinky and/or destroyed packaging- and there is nothing like that feeling of getting a "new" vintage 80s toy- they feel so clean and perfect :D

However- the packaging on your pony actually looks pretty good! Not perfect though.  And if it stinks a lot maybe you'd want to store the entire thing in baking soda-
Tough call but I wouldn't judge you either way  :)

Personally I wouldn't. But it's your pony so its all up to you. :)

I would just clean the box and keep her inside, I would rather have a MIB pony in a damaged box then a perfect (maybe?) pony loose, but this is just my opinion. The pony doesnt look that bad, and you could find a lot of damage on the pony after you debox her, so I would keep her MIB.

What a cute MIB Summer Wing in such a cute little box. :D I would probably try to clean up the box and keep her MIB. That is just my choice, so hard to find MIB G1's.
