I haven't ever had the movers take my ponies, I've always taken them myself, in my car, or with our trailer when we had one. It might have taken a few trips, but I always did it myself. For a move several hours away, I packed them up and left them at my MIL's house, and took as many totes as I could home each trip. She still has stuff there from when my mum passed last year that I have yet to get home. My brother-in-law had their moving truck get stranded for about a week, surrounded by floodwaters. They were lucky to get their stuff back at all! I never send anything irreplaceable or sentimental with the movers unless I absolutely can't help it. And I absolutely agree with those saying inventory! It's an absolute pain in the backside to do, but if you treasure your stuff, DO IT. There's nothing worse than realising 6 months down the track when you finally get around to unpacking everything that you've lost something forever.

I don't really have a choice, I have to use movers. We are moving 14 hours away and there is no way in hell I am driving back and forth to transport my stuff; that would be very costly and time consuming. The move is also totally paid for by the relocation company which is also saving us a ton of money.

I have. Be super careful how you pack your ponies!  I was, and they still wound up breaking a few things in transit, including a newborn twins stroller. Wheel snapped off and axel is messed up. I'm going to have to superglue it back on.  Good luck!

Its not possible for you to pack and take specific special boxes in your car? You could even rent one of those really tiny Uhauls that are smaller than a trailer if you worry about more things than will fit in your car.

The moving company came out yesterday to take a look at our belongings; the guy was super chill and said it didn't matter if I packed up my ponies or they did. However he dos say that each box of them would have to have a total counted number listed on it for insuring and unpacking purposes. So I will write on a sticky note how many ponies are in each box, and leave the box unsealed so they can tape it closed with security tape. Obviously I am going to take photos of how many should be in each box as well. But they seemed pretty easy to deal with!
