Hello from California!

Hello MLP collectors,

I am excited to get started here! I have been hanging out on the outside while waiting for my membership to validate and you all seem like a great community!

I am not really a My Little Pony collector- I always wanted to be but it was always out of the budget. I do some minor toy collecting but I have a bad habit of buying two of everything- one to keep in the box and one to play with. I only had a few ponies when I was a child. In the last few years I started dabbling in minor Barbie collection and restoration and prepared to start Pony restoration.

Now I am preparing to welcome my daughter into the world and one of the things I want ready in her nursery when she comes home is a small collection of G1 ponies that she will eventually be able to play with. I have been buying ponies that are in decent condition, but missing hair or in need of cleaning- I would have a hard time handing an original G1 pony in great condition to a little kid! I feel a little better about it if I know the pony is already beyond mint, but still in playable condition. Does this make sense? I think I may be a little bit crazy with the way I collect!

I have a few "sets" picked out and I have been working to acquire them. I also have a few ponies I picked up at antique sales which are in need of cleaning and re-hairing. I am here to seek advice and assistance regarding the restoration process and also to find some information regarding collecting. I would eventually like to start actually collecting them because I have always been fascinated by them.

Congratulations on having a little girl!!!

I read your post, and you remind me SO MUCH of myself   

I have a little girl who's 8 months old now, and she's also the reason I got back into my ponies. I was thinking how amazing it would be if she could play with some of my old toys that I used to play with as a child.

I grew up playing with G1 ponies, so I took all my old girls out of storage, cleaned them up, and put them on display in her room. Once she's old enough, and no longer trying to chew them, she can play with them   

I do let her play with some blind bag ponies from time to time- under supervision of course - and she loves to go through all of them, grab them and smash them into each other, haha.

That's a wonderful nursery idea! Nothing wrong with collecting played with ponies for your baby girl. I'm sure you'll find some great tips. Enjoy the forums!

Welcome to the Arena! What a lovely reason to become a member. There are actually so many ponies within a small budget, even G1, so I am sure you will manage to track those perfect ponies down.
