Talk to me about rehairing tools
« on: July 14, 2016, 03:38:42 PM »
After years of happily doing all of my hair work using the wire method, I am staring down the barrel (or, rather, the tiny neck hole) of my first G4 rehair and thinkin' I maybe want to not do that this time. So! Talk to me about tools. Who's still making/selling them? What are your experiences with specific ones? What else should I know?

All I did was snip the tip off the head of a needle, trim the pointy end and stick it into an Xacto handle.  I added one of those soft pencil grips to one end 'cause I am a klutz.

I have an Xacto holder that I trimmed the business end of an embroidery needle to use as either a hole widening tool or I'll put a snipped needle eye to use as a rehairing tool when I can't find the one I bought.

This is the one I use the most and I bought it from Chews Brains years ago www.etsy.com/listing/258277143/gold-kit-sale-rooting-rehairing-tool?ref=shop_home_feat_2

It's comfy and strong and she has rehairing needles for sale too if you're queasy about making your own right off the bat.  ^.^
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^

I'm making custom cute pony plushies and have set up an Etsy store called Ponies A'More! Ponies + More + LOVE! :inlove:
Finally got my SALES thread up and update it as I can.  :satisfied:
Lastly, posting my Wishlist here!

Oooohhhh...this makes learning to rehair look a lot less scary! I might have to invest in one of these! :D

I absolutely love my tool from BarbedDragon/ChewsBrains. Hands down the best hair tool I've ever owned.

barbeddragon still makes/sells hers

I used an xacto handle and a SIZE 24 embroidery/tapestry needle (yarnology brand if anyone cares), cut the tip off at an angle , sometimes cut the bottom to make the needle shorter too.

some needles last for several heads, others break a few holes in. sometimes it's the pony plastic hardness, sometimes it's the amount of hair I'm trying to do at once, sometimes it's the needles :P

just loop the midpoint of the hair over a finger and scoop it into the eye of the needle, and poke it into the plug hole. ta-da! I glued on the inside at the end for extra support, but if you're not doing a lot of brushing/styling you don't need to

Well, you guys have confirmed what my other research seems to be telling me. My ChewsBrains tool has been ordered and should be on its way to me soon. Thanks for the input!
