Most depressing day ever...
« on: June 01, 2016, 10:55:09 AM »
Yesterday evening I was browsing on the internet for Rapunzel. To my joy and surprise she was up on Ebay last night for about 600 dollar without shipping. The most obvious flaw was that she couldn't really stand up straight without any support. But I guess that's fixable somehow.

I contacted the seller through a private message asking if she was willing to go lower then 600 because the shipping cost with insurance was quite high to ship to my country. She agreed on 500 dollar if we would do it outside of Ebay. However, while I was about to send her the 500 dollar + shipping. She messaged me that Punzie had just been sold. I couldn't believe it. She did message me that the buyer hadn't paid yet. And that I shouldn't lose hope because of that. She messaged me that if the buyer wouldn't pay. That she would let me know immidiatly. But I told her that is very unlikely as the buyer most ikely had been looking for Punzie just as I did. So why not pay?

Anyway, I feel so down because of this. I know it sounds silly. I wish I had just bought her instead of trying to close a deal :(

It hurts... :yikes:

That stinks, Pierlala. But next time, you'll probably find her for a BIN of $400. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

By the way, the not-standing issue is usually as simple as putting something between her feet to re-train the plastic.

HUGS!
Thanks so much to Calico_Star for her beautiful work on my Avatar!

Just for future reference, contacting a seller to offer a lower price on a BIN is really frowned upon in this community, and making a deal outside of Ebay is against their TOS.

Both of these things are good advice as it can affect both your bidding record and their selling record on ebay if someone were to report you.

If the item has no bids I think it's allowed to arrange a BIN price on an item. And this was a BIN item already - I guess that would qualify as a Best Offer? Even though the Best Offer thing wasn't ticked.

Even if that's the case, though, Skeen is right. Making a private offer to a seller for a lower price is frowned on. I remember one example of a lot of rare ponies that was on Ebay Germany, and someone contacted the seller and offered something like 30 Euros for the lot. The seller knew what they were selling and not only printed the question publically so everyone could SEE the offer had been made and their response, but left the auction running and it went over 100 Euros in the end.

I realise this isn't an example of trying to cheat the seller, but because it's been used in that way before, it's generally considered bad practice so it's best avoided. Ebay and rules are murky, but community-wise it's generally seen as unwise as it can easily be misunderstood.

I guess I can understand that. I guess I was just really desperate for getting her. I know she's highly sought after so I wouldn't make a stupid offer. I dare to say that I was among the first one to spot her on Ebay last night. I was atleast the first one to follow the auction. It's not easy to get her though. People say she isn't rare. But I can honestly say I've been looking on the internet for a while now and haven't been able to spot or get her. I made several posts on websites in my own country but sadly no responses.

I will keep it in mind next time. Didn't know it was looked down upon so badly.

In the past few years, eBay has started encouraging buyers to ask sellers to accept a best offer price, even in none is  included in the listing. But it's always been an unwritten pony collecting no-no to do this since it doesn't give everyone a fair chance. People have been run off the boards and out of the community for doing this in the past, so now you know for next time.

It's such a bad feeling when you get your hopes up for a pony you really want then it falls through. But be patient. Hold your Rapunzel money and be ready to spring when she's for sale again. She does come up rather frequently, but competition can be fierce, so if you see her at a good BIN or best offer price, be ready to jump! You can set eBay to email you when new listings appear for say "rapunzel pony" or "rapunzel G1" or whatever makes sense to you - that way you can snap her up quickly!

I don't think it's that she's rare, it's just that when one comes up at a good price, it's there about ten seconds before someone's done the BIN.

And her price has been steadily rising, so probably it's that.

I think she is "rare" in the sense that she's not like Peachy or Tootsie, but as MO ponies go, she's not the rarest and she comes up quite a lot in comparison to some of the others. But this is also because people know she's worth money, so they list her rather than other ponies when they want cash.

Plus she was only available in the US and Canada, I think. I don't know if she made it anywhere else, but she didn't come to Europe. So it also depends on where you are as to whether you have a chance of finding one at a second hand sale. Being a US pony is a positive in the sense that there are probably as many Rapunzels out there as there are, say, Ice Crystals due to the bigger market over there - but with people hanging on to them, and ones that do go up selling really quickly, it's tricky to get her.

Uh yeah.  This totally.  Contacting a seller to end their listing while it is still actively receiving bids.... that's just... not fair.  Imagine if you were at a real auction and people did this.  Or imagine you were in a store, and staff kept coming over and taking things out of your shopping bags and telling you that they weren't going to be able to sell to you.  :(

You have asked questions about Rapunzel consistently, so I imagine she's your #1 priority.  Save up the money that Rapunzel is going to cost you and bid that amount on an auction - just bid the absolute highest you are willing to go.  And you WILL eventually get one at the price you are comfortable paying!  Best of luck with bidding on auctions!

She was not up for bids. She was on BIN. And she litteraly was put up seconds before I noticed her. I know for a fact because I am using a tool that keeps track of her. I merely asked if the seller was willing to lower the price. She could have said yes or no. She even left her up on Ebay, which made it possible for others to buy her while we were discussing the transaction. Hence the fact that she was bought while I was about to pay the 500 dollar.

And thanks! I hope I will get her soon.

Sounds like OP gets the point now not to ask for lower prices / BINs on eBay ponies. Please focus future replies about her main subject - that she's disappointed a pony she hoped for fell through and how she can buy a Rapunzel in the future.  Thanks :) We've all been there.

Pierlala, if you haven't already, you can start a Wish List thread in the Wanted forum and link to it in your siggy with text something like: Wanted - Rapunzel - nice condition  so if any members here are selling one they will see it in your posts and can PM you. She's a pretty lady, I hope you find her soon.
