Flutter Pony Wings Made From Fabric and Wire?
« on: May 17, 2016, 01:20:32 PM »
Is it possible to make flutter wings out of that shimmery tutu stuff, (or something similar) and wire? I've been thinking about the idea off n on since I got Yum Yum and have another girl on her way.

I think you can make them out of the bottom of soda bottles!

I haven't seen it done, but I bet it could work! I imagine it would look pretty cute!
I really need to try out that bottle plastic technique though!

, that shimmery stuff tutus are made of is called "tulle" pronounced tool'-ee and you can get it as well as edging materials which are similar at Joann's Fabrics and even some at Walmart sometimes, for example I used an edge material i got at Walmart in a roll with the ribbons to re-top Twinkle Twirl's tutu in the background of my picture located here:

I like your idea of fabric wings as much as the originals, sort of like Star Catcher's wings (in the regular size)!  Don't forgot to post pictures for us to enjoy!

Galactica, thanks for posting that link!  I will definitely consider that method.  I was planning on cutting them out of flat plastic from product packaging but was trying to get my hands on a broken wing to make a template, but now thats not necessary because the templates are all right there!  Also her idea of using 2 liter bottle plastic is much better and I hadn't even though about how to paint them...just a tip for the superglue though:  I think superglue will take a long long time to setup in that application so, a slight dusting of baking soda on one of the parts before assembly then applying the glue will cause an instant bond (anyone using this method should make some test applications on disposable parts first because I am not kidding, it is INSTANT and results in a cement harder than you even sand so learn it on scraps before applying to your pony!)

Thank you for your tips lostpony and for telling me what tutus were made of. :D

I know this is old, but I actually have a flutter pony from an old swap box someone made me that has wings made from the tutu material and wire. I've tried before and had issues when I did a little Breyer horse project. I ended up taking wings from hair clips at the dollar tree. You can make them though! My girl has cute wings, but I have to glue them back since I knocked them while moving stuff.  >_<

I'd be interested in seeing. If you wouldn't mind? :)
