I don't think I've seen legitimate research on MLP specifically before with this kind of stuff.  Pretty interested in how hazardous toys like G1 MLP are to actual people though.  I guess G3 and onwards are safe though?

This is why I won't give my niece G1's.
So disappointed that they're not a recommended snack by the USDA...

Be careful of Dollar Store fakies and their ilk.  I know they tested the eyes of the glitter G3 fakies and found they had lead in the paint.  Which means all low-quality fakies probably have the same.

In addition to not licking ponies (lol), it's a good idea to always wash your hands after handling them.  Especially before eating, obviously.  But also in general.

I've been hearing about this for a while... I'm not too concerned when it comes to older kids and adults. I think that with normal handling it generally isn't a concern. But yeah, when it comes to kids, especially very young children who are still developing and who have a penchant for exploring things with their mouths, probably best to be careful. XD Better safe than sorry.

Yeah, my late friend, her son loves toys VW and lego obsessed. I was visiting her place once and she complained that he won't let anyone touch his stuff (aka other kids) and "never plays with them" he had everything he loved perfectly displayed- I said "oh no, what you have there is a collector". Anyway, she finally understood when I got her into ponies, she saw my room and was in love. and he wanted to do that with his mom, and wanted the ones she had. I'm not about to prevent bonding with his mom, and some of his very old VW beetle car toys have lead paint so he already understood me when I showed him how to spruce up grubby ponies washing hands after etc. :) He was youngish, but the collection I outfitted him with, they all went on his shelf.

Younger kids if they show interest, get the newer ones (g3 on) as presents from the pony lady. My neices, not big into ponies or really dolls and that sort of thing- so I am not about to buy it (likely would end like me with barbie as a child. a mutilated doll so I wouldn't get more). Lego though has always been a hit, when they were tiny their favorite toy was this cute vegetable set I bought where you got a knife/cutting boards and veggies that Velcro together.

YES!- I avoid cheap knockoff toys and dollarstore toys as gifts for this reason.

Uh oh -- I'm guilty of occasionally giving away fakies to kids (I keep all of the real ponies!). Guess I won't be doing that anymore!

On another note, I'm thinking about asking my doctor if I can be tested for lead poisoning (more specifically: if my insurance will pay for it). I'm not necessarily being paranoid: I have severe chronic health conditions (I'm legally disabled) and I wonder if the lead in my ponies has in any way amplified my conditions...

Apple seeds get into cider and some juices.

Maybe I'm a bad mom. My daughter gets to play with the ponies, eat junk food, watch purely entertaining tv, and she used to go outside barefoot.  eek! Crazy mom! However, my ocd is such that hands and washed frequently, nothing ever goes in your mouth that isn't considered food, dust isn't allowed, and if she doesn't eat healthy, she gets no sweets.

((hugs)) no you're not. My grandma was the same about hand washing, let us have junk *after veggies* and she was awesome. You are likely version lite compared to her with clean and washing when my dad was young! But with vintage toys, appears to be excellent practice you have already- re regular hand washing! Just be cautious with tiny children and when restoring (boiling/sanding/chemicals etc.). I had no idea about what was really found in vintage toys until I read the article and study.... some caution you already have is a great thing.

Actually, my grandmother was so bad about germs/bacteria/fungus in the environment (she truly also had anxiety and OCD- and still so much loved!) from working in a hospital laboratory both my father and aunt had severe allergies from normal things when they moved out as they weren't exposed to mud, dust, indoor pets or dirt as kids! And the kids who are never allowed to eat anything fun, the only thing they'll eat when they move out is all the things they were denied. :) I'm as bad as that usually under stress a cycle can hit badly, but with different things..... one is stuff unplugged in my home, counting and other repetitive behavior involving numbers. ugh.

My grandmother vacuumed her books,  through all the pages, every week. Bad dust allergy.
