Storing Ponies in Cardboard Boxes
« on: March 14, 2016, 08:41:38 AM »
I just "inherited" a dozen of these fairly sturdy boxes:

Any opinions about storing ponies in them?  Would the paper stain the ponies?  Accelerate break down??

Obviously it wouldn't be water proof.

Thoughts?

I store all of mine in cardboard boxes, but I've put them all in sandwich bags first to prevent staining or anything like that. :)

So I should only use cardboard boxes... if I put ponies in bags first?  or is that optional?

I've stored my sales ponies loose in cardboard boxes for years and there's been no damage or anything. I think if I were to put my ponies in them I'd use acid free paper between them or open plastic bags so they can breathe.

I would use bags for sure , some cardboard does have smell ,so you don't want any smells to get on your ponies :)
if the cardboard does smell and you must put them in there I would put something that smells nice in there ,laundry dryer sheets :)

My clever little sister (heh) dumped all her ponies in cardboard boxes without lids and had them in the attic for about eight years. We had them all down over the summer, and aside from a little dust, they were all fine...

So that's good o.o.

Cardboard boxes should be perfectly ok for storing ponies, I've had a bunch of mine in a cardboard box for a while now with no issues. But I'd recommend using bags or plain white tissue to keep ponies' dyes coming into direct contact with eachother like in any type of box, and be sure to wrap the box in a plastic bag if you end up having to transport them in the cardboard, in case of troublesome weather. ^.^

I have ponies in kikki-k boxes by the dozen! No dramas, just take the usual precautions and don't squash them. I actually quite like cardboard (plain, not printed, think ink stains!) because it's breathable.

I had my ponies in cardboard boxes from May of last year until about January of this year when I finally got my pony room together. All I did was put a few of them in plastic baggies as a precaution, but even the ones that didn't get put into plastic were just fine when I took them out.

This was after being in some pretty excessive heat last summer, too. So I wouldn't worry!

while not ideal and perfect, it's far from most terrible storage method. I also have ponies stored in corrugate boxes. Loosely bagged, wrapped loosely in acid free tissue for cushion/protect from paint scuffs. They do get checked on and are kept in a cool 68°,(US-F) or under, dehumidified space. If you have any ponies who get slimy, or smell pungently of plasticy acidic smell I would store those apart with ventilation.

Thermal (high temps) from purchasing stored lots and others experiences of seeing breakdown in action seem to be the MOST damaging element to ponies.
