Random happiness
« on: March 01, 2016, 08:05:23 AM »
My daughter put our then four month old five pound puppy in a tree. He jumped down, landed on a rock, and damaged his growth plate badly enough to stop all future growth on that side of his shin bone. He had orthopedic surgery on his knee and now has a screw, a pin, and a wire, plus a leg that will always be just a little shorter.

All that said... The happiness is that he can run on all fours again. He can jump! (It is his back leg) His fur is growing back and you can't tell it ever happened. Made me cry because I was so happy to see him running again. He's fast like a rabbit. :)

Awwwe poor puppy! How amazing your love and care helped him heal! :hugs: Make sure he gets lots and lots of protein!! I love how happy animals make us, OMG or laugh for that matter! xD

Literally just earlier Miku pogo-sticked into the shower with me earlier, and so I washed her and she sat in the shower with me! xD after our shower I dried her off with a towel and she started running across the carpet in the living room dragging her bottom on the floor like a dog with worms in attempt to dry off her butt fluff! Then she got into a fight with my sock and tumbled in a ball with it all across the living room and all of us were laughing really hard because it looked so awkward! She was an abused ferret returned to Petco and she was diagnosed with PTSD, no one wanted to adopt her because of her colors and temperment. She fought with other ferrets and attacked a new arrival baby so she was isolated as had an upcoming appointment that next week to see if she should be put down. Im glad I adopted her! Its amazing how love can help animals heal! She is on my lap right now sniffing up my pajama sleeves dooking!

I wish the best of your puppy and I would actually love to see pictures of your pup! He will be running around like crazy in no time!

From before the surgery. I don't have many of him in between now and then since his poor tush was half shaved. Let the pup keep his dignity. He jumps in the shower... schipperkes are boat dogs and he likes the water.  :)

Lala, he's a schipperke. They're from Belgium. Shepherds and ratters on boats. Very territorial and pack oriented. Rather a primitive breed. Not very popular. They're smart and super stubborn. They can be known to bark too much or be too aggressive with non-pack (non-family). He's brilliant and so cutely stubborn. I knew I'd have to train him well from day one since he's my service dog. I got him at just shy of 8 weeks old and he was potty trained in days. I'm so proud of him. On Sunday he passed intermediate class. It had to be delayed two months for him to heal and he did perfect. One more class and he will be completely legal. His fur repels water. We get rain all the time so it's perfect up here.

Melodys_Angel, he had an almost four inch incision on his tiny knee. He was about six pounds on his surgery date. I was so worried he'd never be able to jump or run so fast again. I only had to tell him to leave his stitches alone twice. No cone of shame. We are lucky to have an orthopedic specialist at our vet. He's said that with growth my Wesley's leg might even be the same length as the others. He's only 7 months.

That's quite a lesson to learn, but it's great that your puppy is getting better! He's adorable, btw. :)

I've been googling this type of dog and they just sound so much awesome!!! Their natural design is very appealing to me and I love aggressive breed dogs that have a wolf or fox-like face! I love the ears that stick up! x3

I love potty training animals, its amazing to see the progress and how smart animals really are! We have successfully potty trained Miku to ONLY use the literbox and she has done so everytime ever since because eshe gets a piece of chicken jerky (the dog kind) every time she goes! My friend trained her toy poodle to use the litterbox like her cat, I don't know how she did it! My father in laws black corgi mix is crazy smart, he will sit in front of the door and scratch a few times and wont make an accident- very patient dog! Dogs can be so hard to potty train too!

Glad your pups on the mend!

Love the breed! My mom had them when she was young so I have always kept an eye on them when we are at the shows. I may have a little dog one day!
