I Wanna Talk About Fire Emblem! :)
« on: January 30, 2016, 06:35:44 AM »
So my birthday is next month and the most exciting thing about that is that I am getting both Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest and Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright from my bf. I've been into the Fire Emblem series since Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance released in 2005. I've owned or played all of the games (Although I somehow lost my copy of Radiant Dawn--that's going to be expensive to replace.) With all of this in mind, I figured there would be no harm in starting a topic about FE since it's running laps in my head like a hamster on a wheel right now.

What was your first Fire Emblem Game?

My first FE game was Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for Gamecube.

Who are your favorite characters?

I love Mist, Titania, Nasir and Tibarn from PoR. I like Frederick, Henry, Maribelle and Sumia from Awakening.

Do you have a favorite character pairing? (Note: actual marriage didn't start til Awakening and it's totally ok if your pair could not be together officially in-game.)

Path of Radiance: Elencia x Ike; Awakening: Sumia x Chrom; Maribelle x Viake, Henry x Female My Unit; Tharja x Male My Unit

Which Fire Emblem game has been your favorite? Why?

Path of Radiance has a special place in my heart since it was the first I played. I really like Awakening but I'm not done yet so I can't compare properly.

Do you have a favorite unit type?

I love mages and archers. There's little I like more than using ranged units to mess up the enemy's day. :D

Did you play FE: Awakening? What did you think of the support / marriage system?

I'm going through Awakening now and while I like the feature I am finding it very overwhelming. Older FE games had you going from map-to-map in very direct succession. With the added opportunities to grind xp / money / support and the large amount of characters to interact with, making decisions is harder. Plus when you add in marriage, kids and getting things done at the right time (I'm looking at you, Chrom!) things get kinda hectic.

Are you getting FE: Fates Conquest / Birthright?

I'm lucky to be getting both games. Unfortunately, the special edition had sold out on Amazon before I even realized it had gone on sale and now it's way too expensive via scalpers to even think of touching. A real shame: I wanted that artbook and case! (Plus the 3rd digital expansion).

Which version are you playing first? / Why did you pick the version you are getting?

I actually can't make up my mind and I need to because my brother is going to borrow and play the other game (we live in the same house so that's no big deal).

What I like about Birthright: The art style. I've heard this has the better story. The characters seem more sympathetic (or at least have more sympathetic goals)

What I like about Conquest: It looks to be more traditional FE, the idea of playing from a potentially more morally questionable standpoint is interesting, I like the characters (talking about the siblings here); the idea of betraying people my MC has grown to love seems really sad whether the other side are birth family or not.

Have you looked at the artwork and names of the characters on the official site? Who looks interesting to you?

There are a lot of interesting looking characters. Jakob and Xander both impressed in the preview footage I've watched, Azura seems very mysterious, I love Leo's design, and Hinoka looks like she's going to be one of the most kick-butt Pegasus Knights ever.

***

So if you like Fire Emblem feel free to share your thoughts. And if you haven't checked out a Fire Emblem, Awakening and Fates are (or look to be) great starting points for new players thanks to Casual and Phoenix modes (in addition to the classic mode where units that die stay perma-dead.) I look forward to finding out if there are any other fans here. :) If the multiplayer works out well, perhaps we will face each other's armies. :)

OMG I was just looking for a Fates/FE Thread  :frolic: :frolic: :frolic:

I've also played all of them, currently finishing my playthrough of Gaiden and I started Thracia 776 (but both require a lot of time and patience hehe). I wanted to order the special edition of FE Fates but I missed the day they released the presale :'( still getting Conquest tho.

Sorry to hear about your Radiant Dawn copy, I've been trying to get my own for years (I'll have to borrow it again sometime I guess :P )

What was your first Fire Emblem Game?

Blazing Sword (just Fire Emblem in the west) back on 2003, I got it for my birthday and it's still my fave title to date.

Who are your favorite characters?

Oh man where to begin, I adore Florina, Ike, Lachesis/Raquesis, Arthur (FE4, tho the one from Sacred Stones is adorable too), Nowi, Sheeda/Caeda, Ninian, Elincia, Oliver, Gregor, L'Arachel, Eliwood, Hector, Leaf/Leif, the list could go on and on, I think most characters in FE are wonderful in general :D

Do you have a favorite character pairing?

Ike x Soren, Hector x Florina, Female!Robin x Walhart, Male!Robin x Nowi, I crack ship Arthur x Julia, and a newfound OTP on Fates is Selena x Subaki

Which Fire Emblem game has been your favorite? Why?

Same as LadyBastilla, Blazing Sword being my first is very very special, though I do adore Genealogy of the Holy War almost as much. Both games had compelling storylines, good characters, a great atmosphere and music. Personally, Awakening I think is objectively the best gameplay-wise it is very refined and user-friendly, but other titles are stronger in everything else. The Tellius games also had a particularly complex story, either is also on my top five.

Do you have a favorite unit type?

Anything Pegasus (except Dracoknights in Archanea games) and Mages, especially Mage/Dark Knight <333

Did you play FE: Awakening? What did you think of the support / marriage system?

I think it's really polished, easy and comfy to use, you don't' have a limited number of conversations, chapter limits or Jealousy System among other convoluted mechanics getting in the way, the confessions are kinda corny but at the same time adorable. I like they kept the best from previous games and maxed it out for the new users much like everything else in Awakening.

Are you getting FE: Fates Conquest / Birthright?

Conquest all the way, like OP I couldn't get my hands on the special edition, preorders lasted like a day :S

Which version are you playing first? / Why did you pick the version you are getting?

Conquest, I'll download the others as DLC later. According to people at Nintendo Conquest is a return to the classic FE, also I love the Nohr designs and the idea of a greyer protagonist. Also Xander.

Have you looked at the artwork and names of the characters on the official site? Who looks interesting to you?

I like the designs a lot in general, the artwork in the Cipher TCG is especially beautiful (fingers crossed for an Elibe expansion). Just from design I think most characters seem very unique, (I've spoiled some minor stuff for myself like kid characters, some supports, etc... I couldn't wait 8 months without seeing the new stuff D': ) The Nohrians seemed more appealing to me, but Hoshido also has some awesome character designs. Think the most interesting are Xander, Leo, Subaki, Sakura, Camilla, Yuugiri/Reina, Kanna, Foleo and the redesigns for the Awakening characters are also pretty cool, I really liked "Odin".

---

I think Fates will have an online multiplayer thingie, so if you guys wanna trade Friend Codes I'd be more than glad to play with you :3 (or just fangirl about FE, that's perfect too)

Oh dear.... I LOVE FIRE EMBLEM!!!!

I haven't played a game since the second GBA and GameCube game, but I just love the FE world!

Ninian is my FAVORITE. When I was little I used to pretend I was her when I would play Nintendo games with my friends. I used a blanket as my little sash xD

I looooooves me some FE!! I will answer all the questions later when I'm on my laptop but the GBA "Fire Emblem" (believe in Japan it was called Blazing Swords?) was my first one. The one with Lyn/Eliwood/Hector.

My favorite ship... Kyle and Forde from Sacred Stones. Random, I know, but it's true.

Who are your favorite characters?
Jeeze thats hard... I love so many of them! ^^**

Which Fire Emblem game has been your favorite? Why?
I've loved every FE I played so far, but I think Sacred Stones is my favorite. I enjoyed the extra challenges in the Tower and choosing between Eirika and Ephraim gives the game some good re-playability.

Do you have a favorite unit type?
I... kind of love them all.  I like mounted units best for their mobility, pegasus knights and cavaliers/paladins are probably my favorites if I had to choose.

Did you play FE: Awakening? What did you think of the support / marriage system?
I LOVED Awakening and the support/marriage system was a big part of what I liked about it. I would have enjoyed it if there was more complexity to the pairings (i.e. certain characters that could only be gotten with certain pairings) but even as simple as it was it gave you  a lot to do.

Are you getting FE: Fates Conquest / Birthright?
I actually... am having a hard time getting excited for it. :/ I am sure I will play it eventually but I may not get it right away. Not sure why, I should be stoked for it but I'm just not.

I do have to say I am very glad that Awakening was so successful and that so many people are excited for the new game. I hope it is wildly successful and that I come around on it and decide to play it!

Did you choose Birthright (white box) or Conquest (purple box)? Birthright is suppose to be more new-player-friendly, but they both offer classic (permadeath if characters die), Casual (units revive after each battle) or Phoenix (units revive at the start of your turn) modes so you should be fine regardless. :)

I hope the multiplayer is good this go around. It would be fun to challenge some of you and see what groups of characters everyone uses, what tactics we can come up with, etc. :)

I love many of the character designs, and I love playing them in Super Smash Bros. However, after playing Awakening, I just don't think that it's quite the series for me. I don't feel like I wasted my money on Awakening, but I never did quite finish it.

In truth, I'm just too dumb to properly play that kind of game. Lol.
