Ebay Feedback Question
« on: March 26, 2016, 07:35:10 PM »
I just received a Baby Cherries Jubilee I won on Ebay.  The seller was very careful in pointing out her flaws and has excellent feedback, very reasonable shipping charges, and shipped quickly.  The only thing is, the pony was advertised as being from a smoke free home, but smells of cigarette smoke.  It's not terrible and I think I can get rid of it.  My husband thinks I should mention it when I leave feedback, but I don't think the seller was being dishonest, I think she probably just never noticed.

Should I say something or just let it go?  And how weird am I that I sniff my ponies the instant they arrive, lol.

Thanks all!

Honestly, I think it either should be mentioned or you should dock the seller one star for as described. Sellers sell second-hand items and if the item was from a "non-smoking home" then I guarantee your seller knew it smelled of cigarette smoke because that's just one smell that is difficult to get rid of. I have bought ponies before and had to de-smoke them and it isn't a quick process.

However, if you're completely happy with your purchase and you don't feel it is a big deal, then there is no need to mention it because you're seller is probably not the one smoking around the ponies and they just probably bought them second-hand.

I had the same thing happen to me recently with some dolls. I aired them out and they were fine so I rated them positive with the comment "fast shipping, great communication, smoke odor" and docked a star on product description.

It sounds fair. Do tell the seller first though, so that they are aware.

I'd say email the seller first asking for a partial refund, and as long as the seller addresses the problem properly, dock a star for description but don't leave any comment about the smoke smell in your positive feedback. I sell on Ebay a lot and if my customer were unhappy, I'd rather they talk to me and allow me to make them happy instead of them leaving a message in the feedback. :) This part is just me, but I'm truly happy when they leave feedback saying they loved the item; it hasn't happened yet but I would almost cry if they said something not so positive in their feedback without mentioning it to me first. Sorry about the smoke smell; I don't like getting smoky ponies, either.

Thanks everyone.  I did let the seller know and she's giving me a partial refund and I'll give her excellent feedback.  Poor thing kind of panicked but I told her it's really not the end of the universe.  I don't think I'd ever want to sell on Ebay, it looks to be so stressful.

Thanks for the advice!

It's also possible of the carriers smoked and not the seller.
