Help with cleaning (pictures)
« on: December 14, 2015, 11:58:05 AM »
Recently I added some new G3 ponies to my collection (I'm being lucky at the flea markets )

I was worried about pink stains on Sapphire Shores' hair. They seemed ink. But after the washing, they are almost invisible.

However, the spots between their front legs are which I cannot remove.
I thought they were nail polish, but now I don't know what to think.

Any idea?

Otherwise, I bought this Meadowbrook with red marks. What can I do?
I bought her knowing that the marks would not disappear. Her hair and the rest of the body are in very good shape.

I tried with alcohol, dissolvent and magic eraser on both girls.

Sincerely I don't trust in magic eraser, it usually doesn't help.

I have had pretty much nothing but success with magic eraser but I have heard other people have had little luck as well. Just shows how different people can get on :)

If you have tried all of the things you have listed...I would say you need to take it to sun fading :) Thats your best option for the those marks.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I have a Mimic, not SS Lickety Split and Tickle who all have red polish stains. I stuck them in a window and the polish is slowly fading. You may have to keep them in a window for a while but it does work, it just takes time.

I'm not sure yet how it effects the integrity of the plastic, so just a thought. I used a cleaning product called kaboom. It comes in a purple bottle. It's pretty brutal stuff. I usually would clean nasty old tubs and showers with it. That said, I tried it on a particularly messy pony who was in otherwise great condition. She had a red/pink blotch across one side. It worked! She looks like new. I only used a tiny diluted amount, less than a squirt, and didn't let it touch her hair. I've never mentioned or posted it before since I was waiting to see if it did damage I can't see yet.

I have had some ponies marks disappear with non acetonic nail polish remover (not for symbol/eyes) but it won't always help. SOme collectors has used baking soda + water to removing marks but I haven't been successful with it
