Slightly irritated by eBay feedback
« on: December 20, 2015, 06:13:52 PM »
Just venting here...

Why do people feel the need to complain about cost of shipping in the feedback?

Thankfully the feedback was positive but they wrote " Perfect, hard to find item.  Shipping and handling a bit steep though."

So my shipping is plainly posted in the listing.  They didn't have to purchase the item from me.  It wasn't the only one of that item listed.  And shipping was only 7% of the total they paid for the item.  Sure, I could have charged a lower shipping rate but then I would have increased my asking price.  That's the way it works.

I can understand complaining if the item wasn't packed properly but that wasn't the case.

Aw, well, I guess that's what you get from brand new buyers.  I know everyone has to start somewhere but sometimes I wish there was a setting that allowed you to not take bids from someone with less than 5 feedback score.

Oh wow.. that sucks.  :(

That is why I always stay away from EvilBay.. Too many crazy stories of wacky buyers and dishonest sellers and I'd personally rather not get into the mix.. I know I'm missing out on a lot great deals though!

Can you leave the buyer some type of response?

I could but I've been advised against in another situation were the buyer left a positive feedback with a not so "positive" note.  It would draw more attention from other potential buyers to that particular comment.  As it is, it will eventually be buried under all the other feedbacks.

It's really not a big deal.  It just baffles me.

ugh what a pain! :(  drives me crazy when they do things like that as well! someone left positive feedback for me recently but they dinged all of my stars!!! since they are now showing at 4.8 after a bunch of 5/5 transactions they must have given something pretty low :(  (and they were all at 5/5 for over a year! I was really proud of that I worked my butt off to earn it!) . I don't see what they could have dinged 'em for as the item was described in detail ..loads of detail! with all 12 pics from every possible angle!, the shipping was the exact price (I don't charge extra for shipping), the packaging was secure and I sent the item with tracking next day as promised, threw in free special gift wrap and personal thank you note  and I answered every single message right away too - so how could they ding communication??!!! really there is no winning with some of these crazies :cloud:
I'm sorry you had to deal with one  as well *siiigh*

I can see people commenting about shipping price if they BIN an item and it's one of those $55 shipping~ but $.99 pony~ listings where they see the price of the pony and get excited and assume the shipping price will be...the actual shipping price. I hate those listings and find them to be super scammy. For a normal shipping rate, though, that's not cool and they shouldn't give you grief for it.

I'd be irritated too. If a buyer pays for something, they're agreeing to the shipping charge listed. So IMHO they have no right to complain about it in their feedback after the fact. As you said, if they didn't like the shipping cost then they could have gone through a different seller.

To me, if you're going to charge much more than shipping costs to ship an item, even if you lay out the cost in the auction, yes you should have your stars dinged, because the buyer isn't going to know the actual cost until the item arrives. But if the seller charges a little more I don't think it's a big deal
I expect to pay some handling charges. Packaging isn't free and neither is gas to drive to the PO. It's only a problem when you're paying like twice the cost you should be paying.

This is how I feel, too.
