Logan Library is 100 Years Old Today!

The library where I work in Logan, Utah is turning 100 years old today.  If anyone's in the area and wants to have some fun, we'll be having a carnival from 3-5 and there will be balloon animals, face painting, popcorn, karaoke and other fun games going on.  Also, throughout the day there will be music playing and cupcakes!  And this evening there will be a special presentation and a children's choir and cake!

So come out for some free fun if you've an inclination to do so!  I'll be doing face painting (I'm wearing a tie-dye shirt) so come say hi!


Also, cute story:  I told a little boy that the library was turning 100 and he asked: How can a library eat cake?

That is SOOO cool! Though our branch is pretty old, the library itself is pretty new (for a library) as it moved to a bigger location when I was young. But I LOOOOVE it. People really don't realize what a valuable resource libraries are! I know not all of them are the same, but ours has books, movies, music, even video games! computer labs, study halls, conference halls, free classes, reading programs for the young and old! just so many opportunities! I am there at least once a week.

To work at one thats celebrating 100 years would be an awesome experience, I've always wanted to get a job in our library. I even spent 3 years working in the high school library when I was a student xD. Loved just sorting books and putting them away.

I love that people still love libraries!  It's one of my favorite places.  Our library is not in the original building, but it's been in its present location for about 30 years, and they just announced that they want to build us a whole new building, which is super exciting.  The current building has a lot of age-related issues that need to be fixed because the building itself is more than 30 years old.  It used to be a Sears store and then it was the city offices and the public court. 

We have so much cool stuff including an awesome manga/anime selection and video games.  We've had PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii games for a while but we just started getting PS4, XboxOne and Wii U games.  We have a media lab with computers specifically loaded with art/photo programs, a dvd/vcr converter, a tape/cd converter, a negative scanner and a record player that will record the record onto a computer.  We just got a 3D printer, too!  I'm excited to learn how to use it.  We also have preloaded Kindle readers for people to check out so they don't have to have their own in order to read e-books. 

Some days I look at what I'm doing (usually painting a window, putting up a display or taking pictures of an event) and all I can think is, "I can't believe I get paid for this!"

We have pc labs, but no art programs unfortunately, that would be really helpful for people to have though, I have suggested it in the past.
Oh our anime selection is vast as well, for a time I would read them there, but realized it just wasn't my thing, xD but its good that its there for people who do love them!

I'm always amazed at the different ways the library's find to expand and stay relevant. Hey id be happy if all they had were books! But it's good they offer so much else too. :p It's also become a key place for jobless or homeless people to come and do everything from get help making a resume, to applying for work online, to getting tips on things they should know about working.
