4+ pages of Google results:  https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=thrift%20stores%20in%20detroit

You never have a guarantee of ponies at a thrift store. You could go in, ask the cashier, she says no, the next employee at the register puts out a bag full of 'em....  You just have to keep going and going and going to check these places out.

Yeah, I agree with lovesbabysquirmy -- definitely going to be hit or miss, but eventually you may find something. If you collect G3 or G4, you'll be pretty likely to find *something* if you go to good thrift stores, but G1 and G2 are harder. If you collect older ponies, you might have more luck at a flea market or garage sale (or even an antique store). My current theory is that people rarely donate their older ponies to thrift stores these days because they know they have value or they realize they could have value since they're old. That and also here in Florida, anyway, the thrift stores have cut way down on the toys they sell; it may be a legal liability thing (because old toys may be safety hazards), but they don't sell many. But you really never know. Anyway, hope you find some ponies. :)

I have only found one G1 in the wild, but I usually find G3 and some G4! In my area, I have learned that thrift stores that arent goodwill will usually have ponies! I have yet to see ponies at any of my local goodwills. I have seen some at flea markets, try those! :3

I hardly ever find ponies at thrift shops, but usually if you go quite a bit, you might find one or two here and there! I found my G3 styling Cheerilee (the unicorn) at a thrift shop a few years back. For older gens, though, antique shops and flea markets are your best bet. I know a lot of people have luck at estate sales and garage/rummage sales, but I haven't made any rounds at those yet to speak for myself on that.

Good luck!  :frolic:

always try your local flea market. thrift stores are harder to find Ponies in because they take what they can get, only what people have donated. but in flea markets people are usually selling things that they have specifically selected. it may cost you a little more, but you'll find a much greater variety- i bought a Tux n Tails and a TAF Munchy TOGETHER for only $35!

if you're able to go to a local thrift store very often, i say go for it, but if you're only available to do it once in a while try a flea market instead.

never 'ask' if there are ponies.  You have to go in and look yourself.

I haven't seen any G1s in a few years but they do come up from time to time.

I see G3 and G4 ponies almost every time I go in.

one more thing: if you see a Pony in a thrift store, don't expect it to be there when you get back, ESPECIALLY if it's G1-G2 (i've never in my life seen a G2 in a thrift shop). i've noticed that McDonald's Ponies tend to stick around for a few days, but brushables go fast. MLP merch is also really hard to find, you have to have some kind of amazing, wonderful luck to find merch at a store.
so, my point still stands, try the flea market. some cities even have weekly ones. Detroit is a big city, so i'm sure you'll not have trouble finding a good one. happy hunting!

The Dixieland antique market sometimes has ponies! It's more by lake Orion I think! I've found a few there!

The two times I've found ponies so far since i've moved has been at goodwill! One I had to drive out 30 min or so to go to a tiny one and found some bushwoolies, the other time I went to the one 5 min from me that has nothing ever and found 13 g1 ponies in $8 worth of bags. You never know with thrift stores lol!

I love flea markets too. I've found some ponies there, but sometimes it's hard to find a good one depending on where you are... sometimes they end up being mostly new stuff.
