Do you play doll makers / dress up games?
« on: October 29, 2015, 06:37:14 PM »
So.. I have a bit of a guilty pleasure..

I'm obsessed with doll makers! Humans, mutants, animals, I love them!! I like to make my characters and try to match them the best I can to how they actually look in my drawings.

I usually use Rinmaru, Doll Divine, or Dressupgames to play them. Know any good sites? Tell me so I can make more!!  :P

Here's some of my favorites and the games they came from. Share yours too!

ohmygosh i used to love dollmakers! i would go to dressup.com (back when the layout was more conservative and pink) and play all the pixel dollmakers and housemakers. i still play with the eLouai Candybar dollmakers sometimes

i've found that Korean dollmakers are always the cutest! something about them is so wonderfully flashy.

EDIT: oops! i got confused. while i did use dressup.com once in a while, i predominantly used dressupgames.com

I LOVE these things! The Candybar ones were pretty much my life a few years ago. XD I still have a pretty big "collection" of them saved on my computer. Funnily enough, I was thinking about making some earlier today.

What I really love is editing them so they're not straight from the generators. Recoloring the hair/clothes, using little parts of seperate things to make new, unique pieces... It's so fun! Especially if you're doing characters; most of the ones I did were Harry Potter characters.

Oh my goodness, yes.  I do the same thing and do characters.  Sometimes I'll do mine or even make  up new ones.  That's actually how I got the idea for some of my pony adopts.  I would play around with colors and then just tweak them later by changing the hair, tones, adding cutie marks and then draw them out.

I also like to make kawaii looks for myself because I like Japanese street fashions like fairy kei which is inspired by the 80s.

Here are a few of mine.

I used to when they were first being born in the late 90s early 00s.

You would have 2 or 3 bases and a bunch of drag and drop hairs, accessories, tops, bottoms, shoes and dresses.  Everything was detailed but pixalized.

Kind of like some of the pokemon trainer sprites--though now a days it may not be as pixelized :)

I used to play a lot of them waaaaay back in the day. I'd get up at 5 a.m. to play before anyone else got up because I was using dial-up. When I say back in the day, I mean it. ;) It's been so long I don't even remember the names of any of them, and I'm sure they don't exist anymore.

This! I never got up early but you were on dial up, got DCed whenever there was a phonecall--and only had maybe 30 minutes of computer time/day--including homework.

Kids these days have it made.

Ah, the days of dial-up, flamin' 'eck that was nightmarish - all those AOL trial discs that kept turning up in the post as well! What was with those things?! XD As for doll makers, I haven't played any recently but I used to love them, especially making representations of my story characters (it actually helped to spark some new ideas for them). Perhaps it's worth going and having a look on Doll Divine to see what's new! As luck would have it, I seem to have saved all the spoils of my dollmaking adventures on the hard drive, here are some of them...
