Opinions on DAVIDsTEA?
« on: October 25, 2015, 09:55:11 AM »
Hi guys!

Anyone here ordered from or shopped at DAVIDsTEA? We got one in at the mall a while ago and I just decided to start researching it now. It looks interesting and I may go there the next time my brother and I go into the city. I'm pretty clueless about loose leaf tea, despite loving tea since childhood.

-- Do you have any favorite blends to recommend?
-- Is loose leaf tea worth trying over bagged tea?
-- If so, anything I'll need to get started with that?
-- I saw a bunch of chocolate teas listed?! Is that actually a thing? (Try or skip? Suggestions welcome!)

My previous tea experiences include Orange Pekoe, Pomegranate White, Blueberry White, Peach White, Pomegranate Blueberry, Pomegranate Raspberry, Earl Grey, and Chai.

The only tea I know I dislike is Chamomile.

Thanks for taking a look. Have a great day!

Kat

MMMMMM David's Tea!  I'm a tea addict.

Try their jasmine teas - they are ALWAYS amazing.  Also they did a winter cranberry one that was just to die for.

If you buy loose-leaf in a tin, they take $5 off when you bring the tin back.

Their sampler packs are always great if you don't like picking out flavor after flavor.  Smelling all those scents is hard - after awhile, they all blend together!  :D  I usually grab a seasonal sampler blend when the displays change out.

I am loving David's Tea. We got into tea earlier this year, and my David's wish list keeps growing. Plus I joined their frequent steeper points program.

Samples are a great idea, or some of their variety packs - you get to try a few glasses of various teas to see what you like, and then you can get more later.

Some of our favourites:
-mint chocolate roobios (it's like drinking an Ovation/After Eight)
-cinnamon chai roobios (smells and tastes like the cinnamon heart candies)
-green & fruity

Never heard of it, but seeing who is responding, it must be a Canadian brand?

Yes, from what I have read it started in Toronto in 2008 and has spread out from there. Apparently they have online shopping and do ship outside Canada, though.

-- Do you have any favorite blends to recommend?

Go for the seasonal boxes--it gives variety and a lot of the teas are limited to that season--Davids Tea doesn't usually bring them back--but there are a few staples they will always have.

-- Is loose leaf tea worth trying over bagged tea?

Heck, YES!
-- If so, anything I'll need to get started with that?

If you get the perfect mug it comes with the steeper and a lid that doubles as a coaster.  You can also get the infuser separately, or get disposables.

Try to get natural sweeteners instead of white sugar if you can (agave, or raw sugar).  It tastes better and is better for you :)

-- I saw a bunch of chocolate teas listed?! Is that actually a thing.

Yes.  Its pricey but if you like tea its REALLY good.  I had the matcha white chocolate (before allergens popped) and it lasted me about a month :)  Really thick bars, you only need a tiny bit.

ETA:  yes, they do do online.  Before there was a store close-ish by, that's how we got our tea.

Ive been buying form them for..3 or 4 years now :)

I really like David's Tea. I bought an inexpensive steel tea infuser ball from them. It's pretty easy to fill and close. Then you just drop it in your hot water and steep. Dump the contents after and rinse the ball. Their loose leaf teas last a really long time which is nice. And they have lots of fun flavours. I like their red velvet cake black tea and their pumpkin spice chai is super yummy!
