Looking for Info on a book - "The Mare and her Foal"???

Hello there!  I am on a mission and am hoping that someone here can help solve this mystery for me.  My husband had a book when he was a child that he absolutely loved and I would like to find out more about it, so that I can hunt a copy down as a present for our anniversary.

He believes that the book was called "The Mare and her Foal".  He bought it at his school's Scholastic Book Fair in the early 1980's.  He said that the book had text, but had a lot of photos of a mare and her foal.  He remembers the cover being royal blue in color.
 
I have found a book of the same name, but it was first published in 2010, so that isn't it.  I have searched google, ebay, amazon, and half.com with no luck. 

I know it is a long shot, but thought that with all the horse lovers we have here that are in our same age range, maybe someone else could confirm that this book exists and give more info such as author name, etc.  Thank you so very much!

I googled some books and found this one.  Is this maybe what he's looking for?  It's called Birth of a Foal and it's from 1977.  If not, good luck finding it.  There are a couple of books I remember from childhood that I'd like to have again, too.

The book that immediately came to mind for me is Stormy, Misty's Foal, one of Marguerite Henry's many horse books. Any chance that's the one?

Edit: There was an edition of that book published in 1975 (and it's continued to be published constantly to the present day).

Emberfly - Thank you so much for your help.  Unfortunately, this book isn't he one he had.  It is so cute though, I might have to pick up a copy anyway!

ringwraith10 - Thanks for the guess!  Unfortunately, this book wasn't the right one either.  I actually LOVE the Marguerite Henry books though.  I bought the big, complete treasury a few years back.  I have always loved the illustrations as well as the stories.

but have you tried googling for scans of the scholastic book fair from the 80s? Maybe there is something out there scanned that actually has the book?  It's a long shot... but maybe?

Something else I thought of: many of the animal books from the 80's had two part titles, so 'The Mare and Her Foal'  could easily be the second half of a title, or a catch phrase that was on the cover, too.  I had several like that, and the second part was what I remembered most of the time(which made 'San Domingo: The Medicine Hat Stallion' *very* hard to find, haha!)
