Hi all!
« on: July 23, 2015, 01:37:47 PM »
Hi everyone! My name is Linnaya and I live in a tiny part of Ontario, Canada.
It's the little town that I grew up in. My hubby and I just moved back from a decade in another city.

I have no human children, neither of us want any, but we have 5 ferrets who take up so much of us, they might as well be our babies. I wouldn't have it any other way, either. ;) I love them incredibly. Just in March and May, I had to say goodbye to my two oldest. They both had cancers and my first ferret ever, Aurora, had been getting treatments for half her life. She was just over 8 years old when she left for the Rainbow Bridge, she gave me half a day's warning so we could say goodbyes and love on her all we could. Quietly and peacefully, snuggled up with me, she slipped away.
Her best friend was a handsome, little, old guy we adopted when he was already 5 years old in 2011. His humans no longer wanted him, so I drove 6 hours to get him and bring him home. Felix was older than Aurora, and was in great health until Sept. 2014, when he started showing symptoms of adrenal disease too. A little girl we had only had for 5 months had passed suddenly (was ill when she came to us, long story) and Felix had been trying so hard to be her friend, that when Vaida died, he mourned very hard for her. I had to spoon feed him for a few days. So when Aurora died this March, I was absolutely terrified that I would lose Felix right after. They had been together for over 3 years now, and stress is terrible to ferrets. I was thankful that I didn't lose him right away, but while his age was showing, he was playing now and he hadn't done that since before we moved here. On April 2, my old man Felix suddenly and abruptly left. His passing still kills me. He had been fine. But now he's at the Rainbow Bridge with his two girls.
I miss them immensely and would give almost anything to have them all back. But alas, that can not be. So I enjoy and adore the 5 that are still with me, and love on them all I can, because you never know how long you have with anyone. <3
Sorry guys, "know me, know my ferrets." They're a huge part of me.

Now. On to the Ponies.

The first time I bought Ponies as an adult, I was so nervous it was a scam, so I only bought two, Happy Hugs and Tiny Bubbles. And I waited. I was so excited to get them at the post office! I opened the package and I think I squealed... the post office lady rolled her eyes... I didn't care, I walked a few doors down to my mom's work to show her that they came in. She was excited for me, at least.

I can't remember for sure, but that was between 2003 and 2005. I made a bunch of other online purchases in those years as well, and then became distracted with buying Grand Champions and then I went to college and was totally distracted from any and all online buying. (Darn college, and being [semi-]responsible with the student loan money...)

I was working at a daycare after college and discovered they had a few extremely beaten up G1s. I had a few G2s and G3s that I had bought, or were bought for me, when they first came out (I appreciated them, but they just weren't the same). And I asked my boss if I could trade the daycare's Ponies for the G2/3s. She looked at me like I was crazy but said yes anyway! A poor SS Twilight, Princess Tiffany, Big Brothers Salty and 4-Speed, TAF Sugarberry and someone else, but I forget who now, all came home with me. Poor things. I should have taken pictures. Their hair were big, tangled poofs! Tiffany and Sugarberry had what I thought was marker or pen marks, but I got them off so they must not have been marker or pen. And I straightened everyone's manes and tails. They all looked WAY better after that.
The kids at the daycare didn't comment about the switched out Ponies, so I doubt they cared at all. LOL

The other time I got a Pony was when I was dating another guy, his mom was a teacher at a college and either a student or another teacher gave her a boxed Sea Pony, Wavedancer, to list on ebay. But before she had listed it, their weimaraner stepped on the window and broke it open. She told the guy who had given it to her and he said it was worthless now. Knowing how much I loved MLP, she gave it to me. I told her she would still get something for it, seeing as it is still complete, but she told me to just take it home. So I did!

My collection is mainly the Ponies I got growing up. So there are paint rubs and scuff and whatnot. I have a few minty Ponies, but that's not what I collect for. I collect just to have and the focus is to complete the sets I have Ponies for, before expanding to the collections I have no Ponies for yet.

I prefer restoration to customizing, though I am not against customs. I even have a couple baits that I'm drawing up ideas for.  ^.^ Rehairing is a task I don't want to tackle - it gives me anxiety - hahaha, but I guess I might have to get to it if I settle on a design and decide to customize.

Thanks!
I quite enjoyed how that Sea Pony came to me too!  I love the Sea Ponies! My second tattoo was Sea Mist on my back. I love it, except that I let the tattoo artist convince me into letting him put a "shine" on her belly. I wish I hadn't done that, but I still love it. I don't have a good picture, or I would share it. ;)

Welcome to the Arena. I always love haring about people who give home to ponies even if they have small faults to them, and not outright bait them. See you around the forums!

Welcome to the arena :)

I know how you feel with losing your little ones. I have lost 6 Gerbils this year already! I have to with my right now and one has a tumor in his ear. I give both of them lots of love cause they are getting close to that three year age :( I am on the hunt for another little girl in hops to having some babies before my big boys leave me. I feel your pain!

Hi, Linnaya! Welocme to the Arena!

I'm sorry for your losses, I can see how your ferrets are just like children to you. I love your stories about how you got your ponies. Rehairing isn't all that awful! You kinda poke yourself a bit and its frustrating if you break a needle yes, but other than that it's not too bad. Enjoy the forums!
