Anyone from Glasgow?
« on: July 08, 2015, 05:32:30 AM »
Hi everyone,

Next school year (starting September) I am going to study abroad in Glasgow! I was wondering if there are some people here that live (nearby) and who are willing to share some tips / must sees. All information is welcome, not only MLP related (however I am also very interested in that!).

Many thanks in advance  ^.^

You may want to be a bit more specific, hun.  Many areas around the world have the same name <3

I'm not from Glasgow (born and bred Highlander :) ) but I lived there for several years before I came to London.

What to say about Glasgow?  Well, it rains a lot there, so you'll probably want to invest in a good waterproof jacket, lol. On the plus side it has really good restaurants and nightlife, and Glaswegians are known as some of the friendliest people in Scotland - there's a definite sense of community there.

For safety, there are some parts of the city best avoided, especially at night, but you find that in any city. It's easy to get around on the Subway and suburban train network, and if you need to escape for a while there are regular trains to Edinburgh and the Ayrshire coast and much less regular trains that go up the side of Loch Lomond. One place you should definitely go to is the Kelvingrove museum and art gallery, where they have some awesome exhibits including a painting by Salvador Dali.

I don't know much about MLP in Glasgow, to be honest, but I think there are a few collectors there, and there are plenty of second hand shops to go bargain hunting. Relics, in the west end, is one I used to go to fairly often. They had just about everything you could imagine for sale, a regular Aladdin's cave :D

Thank you for your response! I did mean Glasgow in Scotland, I did not know there were also other Glasgow s in the world. I am hoping that I will get a student room on campus (Strathclyde university) but I won't found out about that till August... If I don't get a room up there I need to find one one my own, but hopefully that won't be the case. I look forward to meet the people up there :)
If somebody else has any tips please let me know :)

I live 25ish miles south of Glasgow now (born and raised in Ayrshire) and lived in the city itself for a lot of my early 20s :) - Uni of Glasgow for me! I am in Glasgow 3 or 4 times a week for work or social time :)

It is an amazing city - so much to do and so much culture and variety - you will love it!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I had to pick a place to research a vacation to in college one time and I picked Glasgow randomly (just picking a city in the country that my surname originated from). It was a great assignment and I still really want to go someday! I never thought about meeting any local MLP there. That'd be amazing.
