Okay So! Round 2I used equal parts ricotta and cake mix- and I must say, at the very least, that makes some delicious thick cake batter that could easily find use in many other recipes!I got distracted watching American Ninja Warrior while the sandwich was in the press, so I wound up overcooking it a bit, resulting in more cake puff blowout on the sides- leaving less filling on the inside, which was a bit of a mistakevisitors can't see pics , please register or loginI also put a lot more butter on the outside of the bread, and used both end pieces for more crust. It came out a LOT more tasty than the first one. The filling had a more balanced flavor, and the extra butter and extra crispy crust on the outside really pulled it all together.Definitely something I'll try again. Though I really couldnt say if it qualifies as dinner or dessert. Its more of a weird snack food I guess.
Hmm. Isn't ricotta an ingredient in several desserts anyway, though? I believe cannolis and cheesecakes use ricotta as the main ingredient for the filling and they are delicious! Don't get me wrong, my kneejerk reaction in this case is cheese+sweets=ewwww but it's been proven to be a good combination. The recipe is really just having you make a funfetti cheesecake filling (side note: I would be all over funfetti cheesecake). What ruins the recipe for me, though, is that they want you to make it into a grilled cheese, which being on a grilled cheese blog makes sense. :p Cheesecake is not something I'd want to eat warm. I think if it was chilled instead of fried it would be fantastic!
Having sweetened filling in a typically savory sandwich, though, to me sounds strange, or at least jarring to eat.
