Pretty Pony Restoration - 6 month update
« on: June 05, 2015, 06:25:28 PM »
Some of you may remember my post about restoring a pink My Pretty Pony, using my secret ingredient to lighten her yellowing.
Here's the original thread: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,362102.0.html

Well today I decided to pull her off the shelf and confirm my suspicions that she is indeed slowly yellowing again. I've had her displayed out of direct sunlight for 6+ months now but she's not the gorgeous light cream she once was, nor the shocking yellow from before. Instead now she's a slightly blotchy cream, and only time can tell how much worse she will get. There are apparently spray on UV protective coatings I could have used to preserve her better but those are untested on ponies as well.

This is why I was hesitant to reveal what my secret ingredient was, I didn't want to encourage others to use the product I did in case it destroyed their ponies. Being an experiment anything could go wrong, her plastic may be more brittle than ever now and her discolouration could become even more uneven in years to come. I of course still love her but it is a bit disappointing, I'll probably just make her a blanket.  :P

I don't know if anyone cares for my findings, but I thought I'd share in the off chance it interests someone.

This is a similar case that I had with a normal Baby G1 MLP. I used the Peroxide treatment and she came out lovely when I was done with her.. but 6 months to a year later she started to show signs of yellowing and her cancer marks becoming more noticeable again.
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

Aww, I remember that thread, Tulips! You did an amazing job of cleaning the pony and lightening her.   I hate to hear that she's yellowing again, but she is still lovely.

She's still beautiful and I'm shocked by the color change (before/after)! Your treatment did amazing things and while it's sad she's getting blotchy again, could you repeat treatments without damage??

I could probably try again, since I risked her to experiment in the first place what's the harm in doing it twice? :P First I'll check her plastic for damage and see how much more she discolours over the next few months and once spring/summer rolls around I might just give it another go.

Now I'm curious if yellow MPP are really just discolored pink ones! @_@

She looks lovely!

I know it must be a little disappointing but it was a great experiment to see how much lighter you could get her! The yellowing was always going to come back but in this picture she actually looks nicely the colour she would have been on release.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
Loa is my love god!
I love Loa more than PonyLady!
