I have to agree with both Wardah and MiRaja:

If you have a recast because the company did not originally offer that option and there was no hint to the future where you could get that particular feature, I can understand why people would buy one.  But definitely never re-sell without disclosing its lack of authenticity.

However... these are not items that are going to disappear from public circulation forever.  Can you imagine a future where we don't BST using the Internet?  I can't.  Also as was mentioned, for most of these artists, their craft is a national treasure.  They honour their craftspeople in a way that the USA never did, hence why the domestic doll market is ##**#.  These are ART DOLLS - nobody is buying them and giving them to kids who will break them in 2 years and move onto wanting an iPhone.  They aren't sold at Walmart, they aren't made by the thousands and expected to end up in landfills ten years from now.

You have ALL the time in the world to save up money and come to the collectors and buy an art doll from them.  Unlike antique dolls which are disappearing because people don't know their history or value.  Unlike collecting children's toy items which most adults cast into a trash can and move onto whatever the kids want now.  Buying re-cast because "you want it right now for a cheaper price and you haven't seen it for sale in 2 months" is almost offensive to the artist who creates these dolls with their OWN HANDS.

do not expect anyone who owns a recast to justify why they own it, but there are certain scenarios which bring less negative judgment than others, shall we say.

I have also been a victim of art theft, hence why I no longer upload any of my work to the Internet, not even privately if I can help it.  I'm just too aware of all the employees whose job it is to surf the Internet and find images to steal...

P.S.  I love love love Pullip Moon!  I have a mini one but that isn't really what I want.  But I know if I want the first version (which I do), I'm looking at least five years in my future and she's going to set me back around $800-1000 at that point.  But if I REALLY want her... I will save my pennies!  And the ten year wait should either confirm my desire or I will change my mind.
