Sigh. And yes, the first one's mane is a different colour, it's not the light.

Anyone else noticed this with Baby Mischief/seen it on any of the other babies? Would love to see pics of other Starlights with weird tinsel...

I love the gold tinsel, I've only had one or two through my hands and the had the tri-coloured tinsel.

Are the hoof marks all the same? I'm sure you've checked! Because there are NC Spain versions of Baby Explorer and Baby Mischeif

Ah, those late-in-the-line Euro and UK oddities... That brings to mind Baby Starbow for me. IIRC the US version has a blue streak in mane and tail, and the Euro version has a purple streak in mane and tail. But some odd variants have been found with blue manes and purple tails or vice versa.

There are some other mismatches out there - there are two very similar shades of pink, one the "fading pink" and one a non-fading permanently bubblegum shade. I can think of Princess Serena, BBs Steamer and Tornado, and sparkle pony Sunspot that I've seen pictured with a fading mane and non-fading tail or vice versa. I believe Sunspot also experiences some differences in tinsel colour. I guess a fair few ponies out there are "Monday morning" and "Friday afternoon" quality. ^.^

Monday Morning and Friday Afternoon Quality. I love that way of describing it xD

In that case, the weird princess ponies are Sunday Morning-After-A-Rough-Night Quality....

Erm, back on topic. You're right, prancingstag, there are a ton of ponies with minor things like this ><. There's fading pink, bubblegum/super pink...and then ratty pink which a lot of the 1991/2 ponies got subjected to (at least here) alongside fading pink (Little Rattles/Whiskers, Hopping Pocket/Bunny Hop, Singing Pocket/Sweet Pocket...etc)

And yeah, Starbow and the purple/blue, etc...

PKW, first the Pocket Friends, now the Starlight Babies? Makes me wonder what was going on in production at this time.

I did check the hooves - first thing I did when I realised her tail and mane didn't match tinsel. They're all China, but you can see they're not all the same colour :-/

I did also just go check the hooves on my other Starlights, though. Explorer is Made in Hong Kong. Sigh.

Off to raid sister's box for Night Song now. I never thought to look at the hooves before, because all the tinsel variations I'd seen had been China >< and I didn't think of other variations.

Edit to add: Night Song is also China, though hers has a slight ring around it whereas the others are imprinted more across the bottom of the hoof. I can't photograph it, because Night Song's feet are white and it's hard enough reading them xD.

Looking at that NC Mischief pic, though, she looks a lot like my UK bought one. If I didn't have her in front of me and could see the China on her hooves, I might have doubts about her origin.

I had to go and check my starlight babies too, they're my favorites!  All of mine have rainbow tinsel in mane and tail, but my baby Nightsong has different type of tinsel with more blue and pink than the others. :)

It may be the lighting, but mine seems to be a darker shade of pink than the ones pictured here. She was purchased from the U.K., has tri-colored tinsel and China stamped on her hooves.
Edit: I took a picture and compared it to the others, it is the light.

I believe all this set have popped up with both tinsel versions over the year. The joys of a toy line that was being made across multiple locations and extended periods. I think just about every pony has some minor variation like this. Its probably more surprising we find 2 alike than 2 dissimilar :P

Great comparison pictures! Thanks for sharing them.

I think you're probably right on all points. I know I have heard about an Explorer, but I've never seen pictures of the others so the variation must have been less common in those than in Mischief. There are so many production variations, though, especially in the middle/later years, you just wonder how much Hasbro were dotting between different factories to produce the same stuff.

If I had a lot of money and space, I'd like to track down all of the individual variations I could, but I suspect that's a task I'd never complete xD
