New to selling ponies confused
« on: April 13, 2015, 07:20:17 AM »

Hi I am confused on where to start I have aprox 100 MLP G1 ponies that were my daughters when she was small (she's now 30). She doesn't want them and I would like to sell them. I have finally gotten them all named and tagged and have taken pictures of them all. What a Job!
Most are in excellent shape as she cared a great deal for her ponies.
Anyway I need some advice and help on just how to start and go about selling them.
I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
I don't want to gouge people on the prices I want to be fare without giving them away.

You can post a couple of group shots (maybe 25 ponies in each picture) and ask for a general price check here on the Arena.  That will give you a good idea of prices and you will be alerted if you have a harder to find pony.  People here are really good about giving honest advice based on years of collecting as well as the recent market.

I agree with Aadra's advice. You will get fair price checks based on the specific pony & condition here. :) Best of luck with your sale.

Yep, I agree with kitkatvintage and Aadra310! :bigups:

I'll also add that the safest way to receive money for your ponies these days is through PayPal. (That and almost no one here pays for ponies in any other way.) PayPal will take a small fee from the money you make (2.9% + $.30 USD), but it's worth it for the security and ease of use. If you don't have an account yet, it's pretty easy to get one; just sign up here (be prepared with your bank account number): https://www.paypal.com/home

Good luck on your sales! Can't wait to see the ponies. :)

*nods in agreement* Price checks here on the board (or by searching the price check archive linked in the side bar or even by checking recently ended ebay auctions) are the best bet.

There is also no harm in simply listing your ponies and being open to offers. You could simply price check here in the Corral as and when you have someone interested in certain ponies. Its whatever is going to be easiest for you.

Also recommend that if you're going to sell to put some information in your signature. Then when you post on the arena it's like free advertisement!
Here's the coding:[ url=wherever your sales page is ] Say something like I have sales here! [ /url ] take the spaces out by the brackets.

We also have a very nice feedback system here and a support forum.

I for one would LOVE to see pics of what you're looking to clear out.

I'm agreeing with what has been said so far :)  The Arena has an awesome group of mods that really does keep the boards friendly and honest, and I have never seen an instance of someone trying to lead a non-pony person astray not be called on it :)  Once you do get the ponies photographed and listed, be sure to check the buyer's feedback by clicking on their screen name.  Their profile will come up and in the fourth "box" down, you'll see a rundown of their Arena trader feedback (do keep in mind, people with little or no feedback aren't necessarily bad people to deal with, they may just be new to the Arena :) ) so you can make sure that they've only taken part in positive transactions :)

Selling ponies on Ebay seems to be pretty hit or miss, and while you'll miss the fluke chance of a bidding war if you list them here, you'll also be more likely to move the more common ones without needing to relist on Ebay :)

People here are very helpful, very honourable and very knowledgeable about pony conditions, prices and such like.

Another suggestion is that you should make it clear when you want to sell them whether you are willing to sell outside of your homeland or whether you are only selling domestically (since that might affect the number of people interested, and also the currency/the postage/and such things.

Otherwise, I guess just what everyone else has said :D  This is a good time to sell ponies, a lot of people have just started getting into collecting, so I'm sure you and your daughter will get a fair price for them.
