Did you ever experience anything similar?
« on: March 26, 2015, 05:35:19 AM »
Hi!

after last year's quick selling of my family's home (due to my dad's money problems which he didn't consider telling my mom – to the point where we couldn't pay our bills anymore) which was a terrible on its own, I had to downsize my collections (Monster High, My little Pony and a few other things). considering the very emotional situation, I handled the selling pretty well.

it didn't hurt or was hard at all but now after all things settled down, I actually regret selling almost everything.
but I also can't collect anymore, the new flat is about half the size of our old one (old one had 120 square metres and the new only has 62). did you ever experience any similar situations?
and especially how do you deal with the effects of having to keep away of the stuff you love?

thnx. (sorry for my weird english - i hope its not too terrible)

Sorry to hear your family is going trough a rough patch.

I know a lot of people in small spaces have a lot of them boxed and only a few on display at the same time. Also a smaller, well thought collection is a good idea for a smaller space. Could you for example install a single row of shelves up on the wall near the roof? That way you could still have at least a small collection and it would not be in anyones way. :)

Don't think too much on what you had, but focus on what you have.  Think of what you'd like to get for the future and think on those.

Put your lesser favorites out on display - you might find yourself liking them more.  When you look at them, don't think you like them less, but that you're giving them more chance to be shown.  This is how I fell in love with Swirly Wirly.

I always wonder how people in New York City Apartments display their collections - space is pretty small there!

I have quite a small space to display my toys, but I haven't run into space issues because I don't own that many yet :D however if my collection grows, I'd just be displaying the toys not only on shelves, but wherever I can find a tiny bit of space: a few here and there, for example the windowsill, the bedside table, my desk, etc.

I am so sorry you have had to go through this recently *hugs* We take so much fun and enjoyment from collecting but at the end of the day they are just things and real life, those we love and circumstance is so much more important.

Even if you have a smaller space now, you could perhaps manage to display a small selection of items? Not everything, just a few. You should cycle in and out every now and again which ones you are displaying - I know lots of people who do that - some through choice and some due to limited space.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

i am sorry to hear that sweet. big hugs.

i kind of have had the same issue here but had to learn to adapt and get use to it. the funny thing is i just finished today after months of organizing and changing things to suit our little rental house after our last move.
though our kids now get a bedroom each which is really good i lost all my dry pony storage and display which i had in a large dry clean internal access garage converted into a rompas room :(
i have since sold and traded of half of my collection amongst other things so i can squeeze my little cabinets into my bedroom and just squeeze what i have left being my most favorite ponies into the cabinets, leaving my small amount of g3's and my g4 collection in storage in my closet.
im very happy though it was really heart breaking when i was selling them. the really good news is that it made way for my most favored ponies and enjoying them then just having some out.  (and yay husband allows it ^.^ or puts up with it LOL)
i have to be very careful as Auckland houses can get very damp so that is why i could not leave lots in storage or they would get damaged beyond repair.

like others said, enjoy the ones you have ;)
