I'm so sorry to hear that, that's terrible. I too get very attached to my things, so I understand how you must feel. Hell, my ponies are in a box (which I don't mind) in my sister's room right now (which I do mind), just for space reasons but I still really miss them and feel uncomfortable with them being so far away. And they're just down the hall! I'd flip if any of my collections got tossed without me knowing.
I hope you have great pony luck in the future and are able to rebuild your collection, or maybe even replace it with a collection you like more.

Hearing stories like this always tick me off. It blows my mind how some people think they have ANY right to throw out anyone's stuff. I don't care if their stuff is in your home, I don't care if you are their parent. If they've left it there and expected you to keep it safe for them then you should respect that, even if it does "take up valuable space". I can bet you that the person throwing out said items wouldn't want someone else getting rid of their treasured items so why do the same to them? So what if it's just a bunch of horse toys? So what if it's extra clothing? On some level all items are just trash. Family photos, antiques, heirlooms, childhood toys.... at the end of the day they are just crap and it's the value WE place on them that makes them valuable. Just because they hold no value to you doesn't mean that someone else doesn't value them.  Mom's cluttered closet of purses she hasn't even looked at in 8 years are no better than her daughter's  pony collection that's in storage.
