Help needed, Paypal dispute?
« on: February 02, 2015, 06:48:07 PM »
This happened to my cousin but I couldn't answer the question, hope you guys can help!

My cousin bought a wooden/magnet dress up Elsa doll kit from someone who makes them from their Facebook page near Christmas. When it arrived she discovered Elsa was missing her signature braid hairdo (you can switch out her hairstyles) and messaged the seller. The seller apologized and said she'd send it right out. My cousin still hasn't received the piece and after messaging the seller a couple times the seller blocked her.

Does my cousin have any recourse? I know Ebay has a 45 day limit but am not sure if that applies to all transactions. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear that your cousin is having some issues with this seller :( If she paid through paypal, she definitely has recourse. I believe they now allow 180 days from the date of purchase to open a dispute. This link gives the first few basic steps on how to start a dispute: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/helpcenter/helphub/article/?solutionId=FAQ1344&topicID=REPORT_RESOLVE_A_PROBLEM&m=TCI

I'm sure there are also other more useful sites that document how to go about the process as well.

Hope your cousin is able to get some assistance!

Since the transaction went through FaceBook, eBay policies do not apply. It will have to go through Paypal and yes she does have some recourse.

flying_narwhal is correct that Paypal's new deadline for opening a case is now 180 days, not 45 anymore.  I would have her start the dispute process. Once a dispute has been opened, they will have 20 days to decide on a resolution.  If it can’t be resolved, she can escalate the dispute to a claim. I would have her screen cap any or all of their communications, she may need them to prove that there was a missing piece.

I would also suggest that if she has any more questions to call Paypal directly.  They are really helpful when it comes to situations like this.
