Replacing tail washer?
« on: January 23, 2015, 12:26:00 PM »
I have a daddy celebration that had a ton of rust inside. It was gross but CLR did the trick! I left the clamp on but removed the washer. What do you put on instead of the metal washer? I've read some threads about zip ties or are plastic washers better?

If the original clamp is fine I usually don't put anything there to replace the washer. The tails usually stay put without hem too. :)

I agree with the CLR option if you want to keep the metal parts in, or they are intact enough to do so.  I personally like to ziptie them if they are not replaceable but yes, I have indeed used a lot of CLR!  It also really works great to brighten up fading pink hair for some reason...

Nothing or a large ziptie, both work, though the ziptie is a bit more secure for fastening tails.  Make sure you rinse off all the CLR really well though, leaving harsh chemicals on plastics is never a good idea, can lead to problems later on.  If you have plastic washers those are also great, but zipties tend to be cheaper and more readily available.

Its footery but if you still have the clamp you can put a plastic washer on in place. I have done that a few times in the past. But more often than not I agree on transparent or white cable ties (unless you brush the tail very aggressively, the tail will stay in fine when on display).
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
