Pony clothes. Is it possible?
« on: December 23, 2014, 10:09:22 AM »
Hello, well, I ta seeing my little wiki and realized something, some ponies have clothes, not call clothing, but dresses or skirts, and not refer those plastic clothes but the cloth, then, my mind idle thought: is it possible to do them? Would have some mold, from simple to more elaborate, such as the lily. I would like to know the opinion of you.

Do you perhaps have a link to the pony wear you mean?

You can purchase most of the early g1 pony wear on sites like here and on ebay. A lot of them are really common.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

At least some people here on the arena have made clothes for their ponies. I personally have not, and I don't know if anyone has patterns for them, but you could make some by fitting some paper tissues on the pony and cutting appropriately shaped pieces from it to use as your pattern. :) The easiest way to start I think would be a frilled skirt made out of a rectangular piece of fabric and a bit of elastic band.

Of course it´s possible, and it´s only as complicated as you make it - adjusted to your sewing-/construction skills and the budget and amount of effort you want to put into it.

I have started slowly just with a few costumes that are not supposed to look proffessional, but rather give a nice overall display-look (they don´t have to be as functional and detailed as real clothes, that is).
And there´s no space in my appartment for the sewing machine but hand-sewing is still  quickly done on such small things.
Beware though - it´s the details and small parts that can be tricky and time-consuming.
I spent atleast 1-2 hours total on constructing a tiny santa-hat that would look good on a pony. Because of the teeny-tiny details, the trickyness to make that small stuff can probably often consume more time than constructing larger areas.
But it´s a lot of fun! :) Much like any other form of construction where you design/make something from scratch.

Also stretch fabric works quite well for making outfits. Especially ones you want to work for ponies of different poses. I have made a few outfits. I've done them all without patterns. I do agree, it can be as easy or complicated as you want.

I was so excited now, I have more practice in manual sewing than the machine, but only the fact that you can do and the right, makes me very excited even, thanks for the answers,

I've been thinking about making Baby Moondancer's costume from Escape from Catrina, actually!

I don't have very much sewing experience, or a Baby Moondancer- but I figure it's always fun to learn a new skill!
Plus, if I can make my own pattern, maybe it won't be so bad.
