Where are all the ponies?
« on: November 25, 2014, 11:43:33 AM »
Every time I go into a shop (even toy shops), all I ever see in the 'pony' section is Equestria Girls :/ I hardly ever see REAL ponies on the shelves.
So, my question is where DO they sell ponies? I'm in the UK, just so y'all know  ;)

Thanks in advance!  ^.^

Symths and The Entertainer and Argos even the big supermarkets usually have a selection of ponies :) EQG is a little dominant in the supermarkets I have noticed but the others certainly carry a good selection of pony items. Smyths is even getting a lot of the Cutie Mark Magic line which has not hit other countries quite yet.

I saw the pony-zillas in Home Bargains today - £6.99 each!

I was sorely tempted by Pinkie Pie but I'm trying to keep my collection to regular brushables. ;)

I'm in the U.S. and I feel your pain.  All of the ponies I see are Rainbow Rocks (actual ponies) and Equestria Girls.  Toys R Us does have a slightly larger selection but 90% of the aisle now contains Equestria Girls.

Are the EQ girls more popular, or are they just 'pushing' that type of toy?  I don't keep up enough with G4 to know.

I am not an expert but I think it's a little of both.  I think Hasbro wants to compete with doll lovers and products such as Bratz and Monster High.  I love Monster High but I wouldn't merge it with MLP.

Most stores I go to seem to be 1/4-1/2 EqG, in terms of shelf space, but there aren't many of the regular-sized brushables, I was hoping they'd have some of the newer Rainbow Power ones, or the Pinkie, RD, and AJ fashion styles by this point. I'm thinking they're just letting that stock clear out until the new line comes out.

I think a lot of retailers jump on the concept of dolls being a guaranteed seller. Its not that MLP is not. But for a buyer, for a retailer dolls are just something they must have on their shelves - a good selection of big brand dolls. Therefore I think, yes, MLP as ponies are loosing out a little to EQG because retail buyers see them as a comfortable seller.

I have the same trouble trying to find real ponies. I am also having real trouble trying to find blind bag ponies in the uk and have only found them in the entertainer and tesco. Anybody from the uk/London know of any where else to buy them from ?

I have seen some ponies in Wilkinsons and Sainburys! They don't have much other than the basic brushables and the little noodly-haired plushes as a general rule, but that's just in Manchester and Macclesfield, so I'm not really sure about the pony situation in the rest of the country. :P

Hmm, thanks. I'll have to have a look around the toy isles in those shops :)

Most supermarkets have them as long as you are at the biggest stores. Smyths also has them and I have seen them in wilkinsons and the range.
