Moving Overseas, can anyone give me some advice?
« on: November 18, 2014, 08:58:11 PM »
I'm moving overseas at the end of the year, (going home to Aus!) and obviously I need to take my ponies with me. Does anyone have any tips about how I can protect them while we move? I mean none of them are really rare ponies, but they're all special to me, so any help would be lovely<3 I'm bringing my G4s and G 3.5s with me on the plane (No magnets ) but all my G3s with magnets/core sevens, styling size/larger ponies, blind bags and plushes will have to come over via air freight.

At the moment, I was just going to put each of them in an unsealed plastic bag with their name on it,  since I know thats how people store them, but I'm concerned about making them water proof because the first time we moved, out shipping container leaked and all my things grew mould...And I'm always terrified of that happening to my babies!
Anyway thats enough rambling, if someone could help me or point me in the right direction <333333

There are giant ziplock storage bags and similar brands (size of a very large garbage bag).  Maybe once they're in the unsealed individual bags, put them inside the large storage bag.

i'd also number the bags.
not to scare you but i've had stuff go missing before from international shipping.
and if you have time. make a list. so you can report exactly what's missing and #1!! get insurance on it.

Sealing them in plastic sandwich bags should be just fine (try to get the zipper kind if you can), but as an extra precaution you can group them together in larger plastic bags  or into large trash bags that you pull closed really well (heck, you could even roll them over, double bag, and duct tape them closed if you want to be super careful about water!).

Best wishes on your trip, I think your ponies will be just fine!

Use silica packets. Buy a bunch of them in bulk from somewhere like Amazon and stick them in all the baggies.

The first consideration is how long they are going to be stored for and how they are being transported.

I think it does sound like you will want to be extra cautious - I would not normally recommend sealed plastic bags and sealed plastic boxes but with the way you are shipping I do think thats the best option. They will come to less harm sealed up tight and protected in a plastic box than they will suffer for that short period in such a restriction.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I have moved across the country several times and every single time, they end up with random black marks on them, so yeah, put them in individual zip lock baggies.

I've only had experience with one move with my ponies and it was when we moved the 2 kilometers from our last apartment.    But I wish you best of luck, moving is stressful to begin with and moving to another country sounds like a real nightmare of a project.  :P
