Keurig users, possibly important read
« on: November 24, 2014, 07:04:28 AM »
I don't use a keurig machine, however I am a little bit paranoid about mold and yucky things in whatever im drinking or eating, and I'm also a big recycle freak. so this got my attention, especially since my moms been thinking about buying one.

Obviously I don't know how it works, and have to just trust what the auther of this story is saying. But I figured it wouldn't hurt to spread it around.

I saw this too! Our machine is junk compared to the french press though. You really can't beat it. We paid a ton of money when the Keurig first came out- what a shame that they can get so nasty!

Hmm, is that internal reservoir for a particular model of Keurig? I only have the cheapest model, and don't recall anything about an internal reservoir for mine.  But I also don't use the K-cups, either.  (Got the actual filter cup to use my own ground coffee instead).

I would think there would be a way to run some water/bleach mixture thru there (maybe a few times) to clean it out, though.  Maybe I'm wrong. (And if so, gross!!!)

Eep! My office has one and I -know- it has never had a good scrubbing.

No wonder I always get sick after drinking something made in it. O.o

Good work  :ohyeah:

Though I have never cared for these individual-little-plastic-cup-type brewing devices, due to all the waste generated  :(

They make reusable cups that you can fill with your own coffee. The student lounge at my college has them for the kuerig there.

Looks like someone needs their head checked.

We don't have one but that article makes the author sound off her rocker.  And this is coming from someone with an acute GI sickness the doctors cant pinpoint.

Good work on the detective work :) Sounds like its on the same scale as a regular coffee maker.

I use a Keurig and dont use the KCups I actually use the little filters for using your own coffee and I use the cleaner you can get for the coffee pots and I have never seen mold in mine. In fact I have two of the things and they are just as clean as when i set them up.

I say just take care of them and clean them often and you wont have any problems with them.
