Breyer website hacked from March 31,2013- Oct 6, 2014
« on: October 27, 2014, 06:16:43 PM »
Are there any collectors who collect Breyer and purchase Breyers from the website?
I'm sure there are.
I was just notified by letter from Breyer that their website was unknowingly to them installed with malicious software from March 31,2013 through October 6,2014
Well over a year
It seems that anyone who visited Breyer website had basically given this 3rd party access to: name, address, user id & password, credit card account number, expiration date on card, payment card security code.

My card was used without my knowledge last Tuesday for Dell $139
And I became aware on Thursday
Told my bank
Issued new cards
Today I get this letter
Not fun
So if you have visited Breyer and logged on or if you have purchased something in well over a past years time from them then you could be at risk too

Darn, I can't remember if I bought anything from there in the last year.  I know I've bought Breyers, I just can't remember if it was from the official website or that of another store

You could let your bank know and they should have no problem issuing you a new debit/credit card. It might also help them to know this so they can inform other bank members. :)

I'm happy to help Breyer collectors by giving them information they need. I just want everyone aware that if you logged in there then you gave 3rd party access to your account because they know your id and password and if you bought something they viewed your information. To my understanding if they know an account password they have your information without you having to have made a purchase. Same goes for guests making a purchase.
Just word of caution keep banks informed and maybe get yourself a new card and watch over past and future purchases because it was on there for over a year without Breyer's knowledge.
Even though its now no longer there from what I understand is these 3rd parties sell information which leads to identity theft and credit card fraud.
My letter states the information the 3rd party had access to could lead to open accounts without my knowledge and all sorts of things.
I'm not happy about the fact that this could be going on like this without them knowing for so long but sad to say its the day and age we live in now that everything is so convenient for us to purchase things online these days thus we with our advancements with technology have thus made it possible for thieves to rob us without actually being confronted in person by them. Who says old school isn't best!
I can't be angry at Breyer because this same thing happens at places like Target and such and sad to say with online holiday shopping becoming more and more the thing to do the crooks are on to that and I'm sure plotting for more places to hit with upcoming holidays.
Just one more reason to fight crowds and shop good old fashion brick mortar stores.
Breyer does support those and I was glad to get 2014 Halloween return after 7 years with out that Traditional Night Mare limited edition only sold in stores with a run of 3,500

Oh and they can do the same thing with your card at stores so its not just shopping online to worry about. Only way to be safe from this type of crook is shop in store with cold hard cash!
Darn it now. That's a hard thing for most to do. Well maybe checks are ok and aren't so bad after all. There was a time when we used those too and not bank plastic

I'm honestly surprised that it could have gone on that long without them knowing in this day and age. Many sites have a constant malware scan on their sites (it usually shows a logo and says "last verified" or something, I know McAfee does it for many big retailers) and I think it's time Breyer does that as well. Considering their very large audience, it's very shocking to think how many people are a victim of this in that time period.

I'm probably more upset than annoyed, actually. It's probably affected more people that when Target was hacked and it should be in the news right now to inform buyers who haven't seen their message.

It took Target a while to realize they had been hacked, too, because these guys who do the hacking are very crafty and stay under the radar. And a lot of the times they try to do as much damage control as possible before letting the public know what's going on.

Yeah, I have heard multiple issues about their website. I don't buy Breyers much anymore since I'm a micro and resin junky, but I did desperately want the new Halloween horses. Someone else ended up getting them for me. I'm too paranoid to use that site at all after the stuff I keep hearing.
