Yes there is a difrence, the original collectors pose and concave hoof from the 80's the mold was scrapped no longe going to be used.

The 25th is a new carved mold that has the year 2007 I belive that was the year on it.

If you put them side by side there is a notisable difrence.

Blarg. The 2007 mold of all the CP ponies (and I'm assuming the Rainbow Hairs as well) are aweful! The pastic is much harder, the tails are thin and don't fill the hole in the body well, they don't feel very nice...they feel like fakies, and not the fun fakies :( I despise them, if you can't tell!

They're also much brighter in colour. Not because they're newer but because they colours themselves are brighter. If you want I could take a photo of them both side by side when I get home latter.

The 25th anniversary ones also don't have forelocks like the originals.

They also have thin, dry hair that doesn't look nice styled.

Hmmm...I was sure there was a comparison thread someone had kindly done but I cant find it - obviously failing this evening :P

Although there are lots of obvious differences when you see them side by side, the fact the new one has the stamp on its foot of 2007 is the best thing to get a seller to look for.

both sets of ponies are nice in their own way-- i love that the 2007 remakes have brighter colors and their painted eyes and cutie marks are more clear (could be the plastic or the paint)

The colors are drastically different.  I think the anniversary releases are nice because it gets a whole new generation of pony lovers excited about the original ponies but I grew up with the originals.  I'm not interested in collecting the anniversary girls but I think it's great my daughter can have her very own Cotton Candy.

Yeah, look at that color chart there--it's spot on!

Once you have them in hand the differences will be even more obvious, because the new ones are made of much harder plastic and have thinner hair.  (Their symbols also seem to scratch off really easily?  At least I keep seeing them in thrift shops with their symbols half gone.)

Apparently they topple over head first really easily too.
I have the set with Blue Belle, Cotton Candy and Butterscotch,  and I want to get the other CP set too. I do like the sets, and I keep mine in box as it displays nicely, but if I wanted a loose pony personally I'd like an original rather than a repro. :)

That's why the original releases had double tail washers that were twice as thick.  :(  Yes, it is too bad they couldn't find an alternative solution after all these years!

I'd love to find the rainbow sets. They never made it to stores near me
