G1 pony ribbons
« on: August 27, 2014, 01:27:26 PM »
What are original G1 ribbons worth now days? I love them but sometimes they're a bit hard to find and when I do find them they seem expensive but that might be me needing to adjust my idea of what they're worth now.

It depends which colour and which type of ribbon it is. For example I ll happily pay $1 for a regular G1 ribbon for a common enough pony but I paid $12 for Ice Crystals and $8 for Sunburst (and I would have paid more on he latter). $1 per common ribbon is normally about where they sit as long as sold singly. The different styles of ribbon - flutters, princess, brush and grow, etc - start to go up in price, again depending on rarity.

Uwwhh show us your ribbons girl.. !

A friend of mine does the same thing, keeps them in a plastic container... I drool and cringe at the same time when I see them!

I must add, I will probably pay a silly amount to get Hollywood's ribbon.

I'll have to see about getting a picture up here soon with them. Can't now tho :/ I have a lot of yellow I think.

I realise that some tend to go higher and that's fine. I was trying to get a rough idea of how much a regular ribbon went for. If you went and bought bulk roughly how much per ribbon for the basic ones?

NamineEveningLight - you know you can find really good ribbon tying tutorials on google but hte best way to tie a pretty ribbon is to make a loop in each tail and then tie them toeghter in a regular knot (instead of making 1 loop and then going around it with the loose tail). I hope that makes sense - otherwise check google.

I've recently developed a desire to have original ribbons for all my G1s. This is going to be expensive.

^ I had the same idea that's why I wanted to know the current price because I'd failed on a few ribbon auctions that went quite high.

As previously mentioned, the $1 mark per ribbon normally when bought singly. As for bought in bulk, it could be anything depending on the lot quantity after all - accessory lots can be all over the place in final price so its impossible to say for certain how little or how much you could end up spending (although I would never spend more than $1 per common one)

Ribbon lots are all over the place. You got to be prepared to lose a few auctions because you never know what starts a bidding war (maybe something else in that lot). With heaps of ribbons they often go for far less (well under a quarter a ribbon), sounds like a great deal but once in hand there's often torn, permanently stained or many non-mlp ribbons in the mix.

I just buy replica ones when I find them to the right specs.

Would love some original or replica SHS ribbons though!

There aren't many places to buy ribbons where I live and the places that do sell don't have anything remotely similar. Plus I'm a perfectionist and have to have original everything when it comes to accessories.

I've been outfitting my g1's with original ribbons. I've run into $1-2 as an average price for a loose ribbon in a common color (pink, purple, aqua-blue, yellow, white) in very good condition, with $2-3 being the typical range for the less common colors (green, orange, more vivid shades of blue). As hathorcat noted, special ribbons are usually priced higher.

One of the toughest things about ribbons is condition. A lot of colors are subject to fading, and frayed edges are not uncommon. For a ribbon with flaws such as fading or fraying, I'd put those in the $0.25-$0.50 range.
