Cleaning Help - Breakables
« on: August 31, 2014, 04:55:16 PM »
Recently I found some MLP porcelains at a garage sale & while they are all but mint, they are filthy!  These are not normally something I'd be interested in but for the price & condition I just couldn't leave them behind, however, I have never had to clean any bisque porcelain before & I don't want to muck them up!  Experienced Pony Porcelain Owners, bestow your wisdom: How can I get years of grunge off these fragile pastel beauties?

I just use soap and toothbrush- the only problem I have is keeping water off the stickers on the bottom. The paint and porcelain itself seems to hold up to light washing just fine.

Carefully :P

Make sure to use nothing hotter than just warm water. I have always used sponge brushes or paint brushes to clean ornaments. Tooth brushes are meant to be a little hard wearing where as sponges and paint bristles are much more gentle.

1) Dust with a dry cloth - you will be surprised by the amount of dirt that just wipes off
2) Use a cotton bud/q-tip or small paint brush to get into the crevices and wipe out all the dirt
3) Gently put the ornament in a warm (not hot) basin filled with water (porcelain does not like extreme temperature changes) and a gentle soap and gently wipe over, again using the paint brush/or a sponge brush over the surface.
4) Allow to air dry

= cleaner ornament!
