Question about 4DE plushies
« on: August 18, 2014, 06:27:00 PM »
I just got my 4DE Twilight Sparkle in the mail, but I'm not entirely sure about her. I haven't unwrapped her from her clear bag because of it. She seems to have the correct tag and everything, but I've heard there's supposed to be a MLP logo on the bottom of her hoof...mine doesn't have one. Is the logo supposed to be there, and if so, what does it look like? Can you show me some pics of yours including her tush tag? I think pinkie is supposed to have the same things, too...
Thanks all!

I have Twilight and Pinkie which I ordered through 4DE's own website. I'll take pictures in a moment, but if you've ever seen a Build a Bear plush, the logo under the hoof is of the same kind. Iron-on thingy (?) of the MLP logo, on the bottom of the front display side hoof. The tush (not really tush because it's halfway down the leg) tag has the MLP logo on the front side, and the back has "all new materials etc., handmade in china, copyright 2013 Hasbro, manufactured and distributed by 4th Dimension Entertainment, batch 01 of 01 - 5/30/2013". The batch number may differ on yours.

Edit: Here's some photos of all the tags and logos on both my plush.

Hmmm...Maybe it's because mine is an older release? Mine says 2012 on the back of ear tag where yours says 2013. One line on the tush tag is different...it says "Reg. No. PA-15149(CN)" and has the copyright 2012 Hasbro. The bottom line is also different...it says "Batch 01 of 01 12/11/2012
She looks pretty much the same as yours, though with a couple of differences...I'll take a few pics when I get home so you all can see :)

Where did you get her from? Perhaps she is a prototype. :O Sometimes those have different tags, and 2012 sounds like earlier than I remember the 4de Twilight plush actually being released (but I could be wrong, I don't have the best memory.) The "Batch 01 of 01" makes me think it might be a prototype too.

I am curious to see the pictures though. :)

A 2012 tag date does sound odd. According to pony news sites Twilight first came up for preorder in March 2013, and Pinkie in June. I remember preordering them both pretty quickly after they came up, but I had Twilight delayed for combined shipping with Pinkie Pie, who was predicted to ship in August. Pinkie's release got pushed back to September and then to October, but I got them safe and sound in the end.

Man, I didn't realise it's been a full year since Pinkie's expected release date... Fluttershy was predicted to come out Oct-Nov, I was so thrilled at the prospect of regular releases from 4DE. They definitely have the best quality plush around, but I find their speed a little wanting.

Ok, here she is! The only things I can see that are really different are the humpy bum-back, where the tail comes out (it seems a little lower than yours), and how distinct the lines on the horn are. Everything else seems pretty spot-on, down to the white points coming off the main pink inner star on her cutie marks. Maybe if I look up the patent numbers? It kind of makes sense that an older release would have some differences and that it would be patented separately from a newer design...I wonder if I can just do that online? I also have the knock-off Big Mac, and comparatively, his design cuts corners, like in how the mane is attached on the neck of the toy. Twilight's is sewn right into the seam, whereas BM's is just spot sewn and attached with a few stitches of thread.

I'll put the rest behind a spoiler so it doesn't take up so much room.

Sorry to be a downer, but I don't think it's a prototype. It's probably just the first release. Mine is exactly the same as yours.  :) BUT mine also came from Anahiem, so it's possible we bought from the same person. Maybe this seller just has an older batch for some reason? I bought mine back in December.

Edit: Scratch that last part. Mine came from LA. Close enough though, right?

Gosh will have to look at mine now.  I preordered the second these came out, so I'm sure I got the first batch.

Makes sense that they have had more than one batch made, the first batch sold out on pre-order.

Is yours missing the logo on the foot as well? Are the dates and patent number the same? I don't think she's a prototype either, but more like the first batch of Funko Muffin ponies, who had 5 oval bubbles as her symbol instead of 7 round ones the way they are now. :)

I hate to say it, but I am thinking the second batch looks a bit cuter...

I have a feeling they rushed the first batch out, since they were already WAY behind schedule by the time these things shipped...

Like I said, matches yours exactly in all areas.  :) I didn't even know the newer ones had the foot logo. I'm glad mine doesn't. I hate those. They stick to my shelves in summer.

Lol! That's funny because i don't like the foot logo either! Well, there we go then. She's just an earlier release :) At least now i can honestly leave good feedback for the seller.

Actually, I know I shouldn't, but I like my knock-off Big Mac better than I do 4DE's Twilight  I prefer the way he looks and feels...Twilight is just a touch too shaggy - the pile of her plush too long in my opinion. I think it'd be a challenge for someone who knew nothing about them to pick out which was the knock-off and which was licensed! I've made a few small adjustments to BM (mostly sewing his entire mane to the back of his head and neck) and fixing the forelock to lay a little more naturally. I dunno. I kind of feel guilty about it, because I know it's wrong, but that's my honest opinion!

My husband swore up and down my knock-off CMC plushies were real and my BaB CMC's were fake.  When I told him he had it backwards he was stunned.

Its pretty cool to see how the different batches vary a little. However I am not surprised that the first ones perhaps appear a little rushed; their release seems to have been taking a very long time! Congrats on your new addition Seashell.

My BF did the exact same thing! I have a Scootaloo BaB and he commented on how ridiculous the huge head looked. He was taken aback when I told him how much they cost compared to the fakie plushies, and he shook his head in disbelief. He said "Isn't it usually the other way around? I wouldn't pay that much for something that ugly when this costs so little comparatively and looks so much better." What a sad thing :(

Thank you, Cat! I'm happy to have her, that's for sure :) Even if i do prefer the fakies, she's still really, really cute and well made. I think I might do a plushie review...
