Can you "De-Opaque" or "Opaque" a pony? With Pic
« on: August 14, 2014, 12:04:09 PM »
Is it possible to make a pony who is not opaque MORE opaque?
Is it possible to DE-opaque a pony?

I have this Half Note the Rockinbeat that I was going to alt-rehair.
(She has some scuffs in the plastic so she wouldn't be mint anyway--I know these girls aren't as common but IDC some scratches in her feet)
I know sparkle ponies & glow n' shows sometimes turn that powdery opaque color...but usually it's the whole pony.

But, the head is like WAY opaque / powdery orange color
The body is MUCH more transparent brighter solid orange color

The photo doesn't really capture how bad the difference is.

I didn't want to put the time in (it takes me forever to rehair) if the head/body mismatch was super terrible or would get worse.
I actually like either color of orange, (so turning the body powdery orange would be fine) but I just wished the whole pony matched so she wouldn't look 'frankensteined' together like that with the head on. Is there a way to make one part like the other? (leave in the sun, put in oxyclean, whatever) Or is the only thing to try to do find another but with the opposite issue & switch their heads out? (I think that could be too hard for one like this)

So you mean there is a head-body mismatch? Simply that the plastic is different colours? You can try things like sun fading and a good clean in case its just a discolouration due to stains or time. But if its just plastic being plastic, which is can often be in these colours, there is not really any way to restore the difference unfortunately.

Maybe die the head?  Or leave the body out in the sun to see if it will fade?  I kind of wonder if the plastic is breaking down in the head.

That sounds pissible, if the pony has plastizer problems then there's not too mush to do, does the head plastic  feel hard in comparation of the body?

Wit  plastizer or regrind then the options are very limited, maybe rehair in longer hair  to cover the neckline and/or  also darker or bold  colors so it distracts from the pony's body color difference

Yes, the head IS harder than the body.
Both parts are pretty hard, but I would say the head is harder for sure. I've had ponies go from semi-hard to like super duper hard...but so far it has luckily been the whole pony. (Like a Sweet Stuff)

I didn't realize it could be a plastic breakdown / plasticizer problem I thought it was more of an abuse the pony or sunlight related thing because of her other problems. (Obviously scratched cuts in plastic, hair was totally dryrotted/sunrotted & cut so like it was clear she wasn't well cared for previously...I had been thinking that's what could have helped her along into mismatching--and if it could be done, then possibly undone too.

I'm going to take the advice here and do a bit of a fade for the body (covering the symbols) just for a little while to see if I can get it going. If nothing happens...I guess just rehair anyway. (I do have some very bold colors planned here)

It does sounds like plastizer  break :( if you are sunfading be careful since the heat can make things worse

As it appears the heat can break the plastizer even faster, at least wit G3 there were some treads were the people who lived in hot climates had faster issues wit divine shines ponies getting plastizer leak faster

I did had the problems however the ponies weren't let in the sun or light, just in a climate that can go to 40c and high humity when is really hot days

One of my Rockin Beats also has terrible mismatch and has gone kind of "pearly".  I suspect it's a trait for the neon colored plastic.  :(
