Does factory curl affect these ponies value? (PC)
« on: August 07, 2014, 12:08:31 PM »
I'm sorry for all the PCs ;;   I'm mainly want to know because I just bought this Salty, and I love his tail factory curl shape, but it's so unruly, I'm tempted to brush it out and make it nicer.  But I don't want to kill any value he possibly has.  He has this weird like his skin tone but slightly browner mark near his arm? It's like a dash, not a spot.  I think I've seen other Salty's with the same mark in similar places? Other than that he's perfect.
And I'm just super curious about what the other two ponies are worth, both in NM condition, I think.  (I think their hair is factory, I don't think anyone has tried styling it, my mom only put braids in her ponies hair, nothing like this.)

I say yes. I would ask more and be willing to pay more for factory curl (I mean not anything outrageous, but I think it can add $5-$10 on a pony, depending on starting price point). It is, afterall, a measure of condition, Where all ponies begin as mint and work their way down. Factory curl moves the condition of the pony closer to mint than poor.

Yes, I do think factory curl adds to value - which pony it is and how much it adds is going to vary of course. It will also vary collector to collector as to how much. It adds to how minty a pony is after all. Rather than brushing it all out, you would be better to tease it gently into a better order. However, factory curl is naturally a little messy, so while you may not be devaluing massively by completely restyling, its not something you are every going to get back so it seems a little pointless to remove what is a beautiful curl/style.

The brown mark you describe - is it the one on Tux's shoulder? It looks like an age mark unfortunately. He can be prone to them so thats going to dent his price much more than any factory curl adds unfortunately. Salty can also be prone to age marks - that colour always is unfortunately.

Just to make sure on the price check. Salty and Tux's only problems are their age marks? Satin is perfect?

Tux is perfect, I think!  Salty is the only one that has the little dash on his leg.  If anything shows up on Tux in the photos, it's just bad lighting in my room.  He's so shiny in here for some reason, it's hard to get a good picture of him.  And I'm pretty sure Satin is markless too, I had her without her dress on only a couple weeks ago, and I didn't see anything.

Thank you for the advice on the hair!  I'll have to try to figure out how to get his hair more in order then.  He's my favorite boy, so I've got to keep him looking nice.

Great :) Well assuming Salty's issue is an age mark it is going to knock him down in price perhaps $8. Satin with no problems and her lovely pink hair $14, with her accessories if complete $25-28. And Tux will be around $45-50.

Lovely ponies. :)
