What do YOU do with your doubles?

I don't hoard per se... There are a few ponies that I do like to keep. Most of the time I sell off doubles/triples, etc... It's my way of getting new ponies. I won't upgrade my original herd.

I almost always keep my originals, unless they have a major problem such as missing parts or cancer.

If the doubles are in good condition, I'll usually sell them. Anyone not in good condition (and not rare or highly sought after) is sent to the pony recycler, also known as the bait bin.

I'd keep the best one and sell or trade the other. I don't understand why people want more than one of the same thing. I'm not knocking it; I just don't understand it. I really dislike clutter, though.

I keep them if they are army ponies of course *welcomes all the Sundances and Hopscotches*

Otherwise, I keep the best one and simply sell on the other...assuming I cannot justify them as being different enough to keep.

I tend to hoard them but I also will rehome them to other collectors who are looking for a new pony. Since I have a majority G1 collection (split between WA and MN as well) some of the ponies I can't seem to let go of. I almost did a trade with someone, but then I was all "...oh...that one? you like that pony, huh? hmm. I...I don't know if I can get her go..."  as my G1's currently came from someone who was just getting rid of a ton of ponies and I feel like I rescued them from a worse fate. hahaha

Although I do have *four* banana split sundae best ice cream butt that I wouldn't mind trading 3 away...She was "my" pony though growing up and though I know the original is safe in MN with the rest of the herd, I can't help but feel a pang of nostalgia and don't want to let them go.
I won't sell or trade to someone who is going to turn it into a custom, though. I think you can custom G4's all day long, but not my G1s! G1s are for restoring and preserving!

I try not to keep doubles around unless they are of ponies that have a special meaning, I'm hard pressed to get rid of any Bluebelle for example.  If I find a double at a flea market or one comes in a lot I will use it to upgrade my previous pony if it is in better condition unless the original pony was a gift, from a swap or has a special memory attached to it.  In that case I would sell the new pony on.

I don't really have an answer that fits those options. With some ponies I'm like "upgrade ahoy!" and other ponies I'll keep both or the old one, because of the sentimental value. If I have a decent-looking pony I'm attached to, any new ones will move on, regardless of being 'slightly better'. But if my old one that I'm madly in love with is a hot mess, I'll keep a mint one too if it comes along, like I have with Ruby Lips and Sweet pocket, who are manky childhood girls, but now that i have upgrades they stay by my bed, and their duplicates hang out with the collection.

But sometimes ponies come along that have an endearing trait, too, like one of my G3 Mintys. She has had her hair done by someone who obviously loved her very much. It's styled and faded, but I just can't bring myself to be rid of her just yet. Maybe one day, as she's a duplicate and I don't really need her, but for now she has a home here.

For me it varies from pony to pony. Sometimes I put my original up for trade when I find one in better condition. But there are certain ponies I like too much or am too sentimental about so I keep both versions.

I fall into a couple of these categories.  I mostly keep the best condition ones only, with a couple of exceptions for variants.  I sell/trade my doubles, except for my childhood ponies.  Most of those I keep in the 'ponies to play with' collection for my kids.  My childhood ones were very well played with, and not worth much now to anyone but me.

So far, though, my efforts to introduce ponies into the mix for my son and daycare kid have been foiled.  He keeps picking them out of the toy bin, and bringing them back to me saying "mom pony."  lol, yep, mom pony <3

My answer's not in the poll...

When I get a double, I check to see if it's in nicer condition than the one in my collection.  If it is (and the one in my collection isn't from childhood), she gets upgraded into the herd and the extra pony goes into my "sale barn."  Unfortunately, I have yet to sell ANY of my duplicates.  I've traded a few times, but pretty much I unintentionally hoard duplicate (and plus...) ponies.  I even have some G3s that I intentionally bought extras of for sale/trade purposes *and haven't done anything with them*.  It's not that I'm too lazy to sell them; it's that the few times I have tried to sell things online, it turns into a bigger headache for me than I think it's worth.  I have trouble juggling multiple inquiries and live in constant fear of someone getting mad at me because my definition of "good condition" or "haircut" is different than the buyer's.
